The 1080 is a loop of indestructible prayer beads that can be used to bind spirits.[1] It is a powerful tool in the hands of full-fledged itakos, such as Kyōyama Anna and Alumi Numbirch.

About[]

After the Oh-Oni's defeat by Asakura Yoh and Matamune's hands and Kyōyama Anna's open heart, Asakura Kino gathered all of the beads that had served as the spiritual media for the multitude of oni that had composed the Oh-Oni, and strung them together as the ultimate itako tool.[2] Kino gave it to Anna once she became a fully trained itako.[1]

Each bead is engraved with the desire of the living to speak with the deceased, the desire of the dead to convey their message, and the compassion of the practitioner to allow them to meet, all of which become powerful emotions and exert high-spec power.[3]

Techniques[]

  • Demon Subjugation (降魔調伏 Gōma Chōbuku): A spell from the Chō-Senjiryakketsu, Anna wraps the string of beads around Zenki and Goki and forces them back into their paper talismans.[4]
  • Sealing Barrier (呪縛結界): Anna's most powerful sealing technique. Used only in the 2001 Anime, which was unsuccessful as Hao managed to overpower Anna.

Anime/Manga Difference[]

In the 2001 anime, the prayer beads are sealed at the bottom of the lake at Mt. Osore.[5] Its origins are traced back to the Asakura Family heritage, where each bead is a medium containing an Asakura shaman's spirit. It was created for the sole purpose of destroying Asakura Hao, until it was destroyed as Hao managed to overpower them.[6]

Trivia[]

  • Normal loops contain 108 beads to counter the 108 earthly desires, so Anna's has 10 times as much power.[7]
