Anna the Itako (ITAKOイタコANNAアンナ Itako no Anna) is Hiroyuki Takei's first one-shot chapter which won the 48th Tezuka Award.

It was later collected in the Volume 27 KC Edition of Shaman King.

About[]

Anna and her grandmother head on shamanic business to Tokyo where a greedy sword collector is bent on obtaining the legendary katana Harusame.

Characters[]

  • Anna Kyouyama (恐山アンナ Kyōyama Anna): Age 13. The main protagonist and an itako.
  • Kiyo (キヨ): Age 72. Anna's grandmother and mentor
  • Chuzo Kanenaga (金長中三 Kanenaga Chūzō): Age 55. A notorious sword collector.
  • Renkyu (蓮休 Renkyū): Age 13. A young monk at the temple.
  • Jikaku (字覚): Age 99. The head monk of the temple.
  • Masamune (正宗): Age 21. Chuzo's first son. He is named after Masamune, a Japanese swordsmith.
  • Muramasa (村正): Age 20. Chuzo's second son. He is named after Muramasa, a Japanese swordsmith.
  • Murasame (村雨): Age 19. Chuzo's third son. He is named after a sword from the Japanese epic novel Nansō Satomi Hakkenden.
  • Kotetsu (子鉄): Age 18. Chuzo's fourth son. He may be named after another Japanese swordsmith, Kotetsu (albeit with different kanji).

Spirits[]

  • Alfred (アルフレッド Arufureddo): Kiyo's deceased husband and Anna's grandfather. Anna lets him possesses her so she can drive his motorcycle.
  • Tojiro (冬次郎 Tōjirō): A hitokiri during the Sengoku Period and wielder of the Harusame. He abandoned his killing ways after falling in love with Onatsu.
  • Onatsu (おなつ): A resident of the temple which Harusame resides, and becoming Tojiro's love interest. She lingers in the temple in regret that Tojiro's death was the result of her words.

Trivia[]

  • As a one-shot, this chapter is non-canon with any of the following works by Hiroyuki Takei, which is evident through the ownership of Harusame during the Sengoku Period was replaced by Amidamaru in Shaman King.
  • Anna's character in terms of appearance and abilities would later be inherited by Kyoyama Anna, the main heroine in the author's hit franchise, Shaman King.
