Ashil (アシル Ashiru, 4Kids: "Basil") is a fictional character in the Shaman King 2001 anime series. He is a devoted follower of Asakura Hao.[1] He tries to kill Yoh but is killed by the X-Laws.[2]
Appearance[]
He has brown hair in a pageboy style and has grey eyes. His outfit seems to be based on that of Spanish nobles and consists of a black coat with gold lining and white cuffs, a black vest, a white dress shirt, a red sash around his waist, black pants, and black shoes.
Personality[]
Ashil was rather cocky, believing it would be easy to kill Yoh and his friends because of his easily regenerating spirit. He was also revealed as having deep feelings for Hao and is very jealous of Hao's interest in Yoh, allowing his deeper feelings to overpower his loyalty.[2]
Abilities and Powers[]
Spirit[]
- See More: Siegfried
Ashil's Guardian Ghost is Siegfried, an ungaikyō spirit, and uses dirt as the spiritual medium for his Over Soul.[2]
History[]
Travel through America[]
Ashil accompanies Asakura Hao as he travels through America.[1] Later, while Hao, Opacho, and Luchist Lasso are relaxing around a fire, Ashil complains about being bored and wonders if they should just take it easy after they have arrived at the Patch Village. As Hao mentions there is no need to rush as they still have time, Ashil realizes it is because of Yoh, and that he is too attached to him, arrogantly claiming he is stronger. In response, Hao sends him to eliminate Yoh's friends and states that Yoh's friends are holding him back and that eliminating a few should make even him angered. Ashil happily agrees and asks him if he had no other choice it would be okay to kill Yoh, but Hao merely smirks as Ashil begins to take leave. Before he can run off, Luchist orders Bill Burton to go with him; however, Ashil claims he does not need Bill's help, despite Hao telling him he would not get in the way.
Ashil confronts Yoh's group and introduces himself, claiming that he has no idea why Hao such such interest in Yoh. Horohoro claims they do not seem to understand it either, with Ashil telling him that it will not matter, as they are all going to die there. After Bill and his The Big Guys surround Yoh, Ashil laughs cruelly as wishes for Yoh to watch his friends die from there. Yoh wonders why he was singled out, and Ashil reveals that he cannot harm Hao's descendant. As Horohoro, Lyserg Diethel, Tao Ren, and Umemiya Ryunosuke do battle with Ashil, Siegfried's arms regenerate, and Ashil claims that they are no match for him, striking down both Ryu and Horohoro. The battle continues until Yoh is eventually able to overpower Bill and escape his entrapment.
Fighting alongside his allies, Yoh and his friends are able to completely destroy Siegfried. Ashil regenerates it again and vows to destroy the power Yoh has that made Hao so interested in him. Before they can continue any further, Marco Lasso of the X-Laws appears and fires Michael at Ashil, blasting a hole through both Ashil and Siegfried with a powerful shot that expands into a wave of energy. Dying, Ashil tearfully calls out his master's name. Both Ashil and Siegfried are vaporized by the subsequent explosion.[2]
Anime/Manga Difference[]
Ashil is a 2001 anime-only character whose role rearranges some scenes in the manga series. He is the first member of Hao's followers to be killed on-screen by the X-Laws instead of Boris Tepes Dracula. He was also the first to reveal to Yoh and the others about Yoh's ancestry with Hao, which was originally Mohamed Tabarsi's role.
