Bourbon participated in the Shaman Fight so he could restore passion to the passionless world.[1]
Abilities and Powers[]

His Guardian Ghost is the spirit of a wild horse called Mach One (マックワン Makkuwan). His Over Soul's medium is a guitar with a horseshoe attached to it.[1]
History[]
Past[]
Bourbon learned guitar playing and shamanism from his uncle, who had returned to Spain after immigrating to Mexico.[1]
Shaman Fight in Tokyo[]
Not much is known about his performance during the preliminary round, but Bourbon did win two matches and advanced to the main competition. Bourbon and the other qualifying competitors attended the opening ceremony at Mimata Hall.[3]
Traveling Through America[]
A month later, Bourbon and the other competitors gathered at Yokocha Base and were flown to America in the Patch Jumbo. The shamans were tasked with locating and reaching the Patch Village within three months. While still tens of thousands of feet in the air, the jumbo jet was revealed to be an Over Soul shortly before it was dematerialized, dropping all of its passengers.[4]
When Frisch was attacked by other shamans during the first round of the Shaman Fight, Rameau and Bourbon saved him. After talking about music, the three of them became friends and decided to form a shaman hip-hop/mariachi band, with Bourbon as their leader.[5] The three successfully reached the village[6] and formed Team "Mariachi" for the tournament.
Shaman Fights Second Round[]
Two months later, Team "Mariachi" was brought to the island Tokyo, where the tournament would take place.[7] While eating at Corn King, Bourbon was shocked to overhear Asakura Yoh's boast that he would defeat the Icemen by himself with a single attack.[8]
Bourbon and his team were left waiting onstage when Team "Kabbalahers" did not show up for their match.[2] Team "Kabbalahers" eventually made it to the arena, and Asakura Mikihisa defeated Team "Mariachi".[9]
Invading the Plants[]
After Asakura Hao became the Shaman King, Bourbon and his teammates boarded the train of souls within the Great Spirit and journeyed to the highest commune in support of the Five Elemental Warriors.[10]
Anime/Manga Difference[]
Bourbon does not appear in the 2001 anime series.
Trivia[]
- Bourbon's design is based on "El Mariachi", Antonio Banderas's character in Desperado.
- This was also the inspiration for Batoh in Takei's previous series, Butsu Zone.[11]
