Camel was born on May 29, 1962.[2] He married and they had two children, Redseb and Seyrarm. During his world travels, Camel met Asakura Mikihisa when they both stayed in the same tent at Mount Kailash and they became friends. Camel eventually asked Mikihisa to take care of his children and the Golem should something happen to him.[3] At some point, he finished the creation of Golem, using human souls as a fuel to the furyoku of the Golem. Nobody knows what happened to his wife, but she eventually returned to the family and became the spirit that controlled the Golem.

On Christmas day of 1998, Camel was jumped by Shaft and killed by Chocolove McDonnell.[4][5] Camel's obsession with the Golem eventually turned him into an earthbound spirit.[6]

Shaman Fights Second Round[]

After the Golem located Chocolove and his former gang on Tokyo, Camel possessed Seyrarm in order to pilot the Golem and killed the former gang members.[7] When Asakura Yoh tried to stop them, Camel lashed out with the Golem. Yoh eventually convinced Redseb to let go of his hatred. However, the Golem then shot Yoh, and both boys fell from the Golem.[8]

While searching for Yoh, the Golem was suddenly caught by Asakura Hao using the Spirit of Fire. Hao then revealed to everyone that Camel was possessing Seyrarm in order to pilot the Golem. After Hao suggested that Camel reveal the secret behind Golem, Camel lashed out at Hao, freed himself, and even managed to destroy Hao's Over Soul. However, Hao reformed his Over Soul and caught the Golem.[9] Before the Spirit of Fire could consume the Golem, Lyserg Diethel used Zelel to sever the arm of the Spirit of Fire and then had Morphin bind the Golem. When Hao recreated the missing arm, Camel was left stunned, so he assessed Hao's and his Over Soul's furyoku and realized it was impossible for him to fight back.[10]

After Hao left, the others began talking about who would become the Shaman King. This reignited Camel's focus, and he declared that he and Golem would take the title. In order to recharge Golem's furyoku, Camel attacked the other shamans so Golem could consume their souls. After Tao Ren and Usui Horokeu failed to incapacitate the Golem, Lyserg Diethel and his Archangel, Zelel, fled with the group. Camel chased after them, until they stopped in an attempt to have Redseb reason with him. Ignoring Redseb, Camel once again had Golem attack them with the Emeth Blast, only to have it redirected by the recently revived Chocolove and his new Guardian Ghost, Pascual Abaj. After Chocolove tried to reason with Camel, the two engaged each other in a fight, with Chocolove gaining the upper hand due to his increase in power and new Over Soul, "Jaguarman." As they both prepared a final attack on each other, Kyōyama Anna suddenly appeared and took them both down with her shikigami, Zenki and Goki.[11]

Having regained his senses during the fight, Camel admitted that Golem was out of power and released Seyrarm from the Golem. He apologized to his children, while asking the people around him to take of his children. As he attempted to activate the Golem's self-destruct before his departure, he was stopped by Anna who wanted to keep the Golem around as a weapon against Hao and forced Camel to stay in order to teach her how to operate it.[12]

Invading the Plants[]

Camel once again entrusted his children's care to Mikihisa before moving on to the afterlife in the Great Spirit.[13]

While the Five Elemental Warriors were fighting Shaman King Hao, Camel and his children accompanied Anna in the Golem as she traveled through the communes and helped organize the train of souls.[14]

Anime/Manga Difference[]

Due to the major changes to the second part of the Shaman Fight, Camel does not appear in the 2001 anime series adaptation.

Trivia[]

  • Like his children, Camel's name comes from a brand of cigarettes sold by Japan Tobacco: Camel.
  • In the character popularity polls, Camel ranked #58 (along with Shigaraki) in the second.
