Chicory (チコリ, Chikori) is a fictional character in the Shaman King manga and anime series. He participated in the Shaman Fight of AD 2000 as a member of Team "Haiti 800", with his students Datura and Minder.

Personality

Chicory is usually quiet and reserved but can be stubborn and unyielding once his mind is set. He joined in the Shaman Fight to support Datura's ideal of eliminating the world's wealth disparity.

Abilities and Powers

Chicory is a voodoo practitioner and the teacher of Datura and Minder.

Spirits

Their team's Guardian Ghosts are Zombie Soldiers, and they use Over Souls to animate the corpses.

History

Past

Chicory was a friend of Datura's father and worked on his farm. He taught Datura voodoo so she would remember her African roots. This awoke her shamanic abilities. Chicory also taught Minder, Datura's friend who had awoken his shamanic abilities after a farming accident.

Shaman Fight in Tokyo

Not much is known about his performance during the preliminary round, but Chicory did win two matches and advanced to the main competition. Chicory and the other qualifying competitors attended the opening ceremony at Mimata Hall.

Traveling through America

A month later, Chicory and the other competitors gathered at Yokocha Base and were flown to America in the Patch Jumbo. The shamans were tasked with locating and reaching the Patch Village within three months. While still tens of thousands of feet in the air, the jumbo jet was revealed to be an Over Soul shortly before it was dematerialized, dropping all of its passengers.

Chicory, Datura, and Minder successfully reached the village and formed Team "Haiti 800" for the tournament.

Shaman Fight Second Round

Months later, the competing shamans were transported to the island Tokyo. For their first match, Team "Haiti 800" was pitted against Gandhara's Team "Nyorai". During the match, Sati Saigan easily pacified the Zombie Soldiers, turning the corpses to dust and sending their spirits to the afterlife. Chicory admired Sati for defeating them without harming them, and Sati praised the noble ideals of Team "Haiti 800".

Anime/Manga Difference

Like the rest of his team, he does not appear in the 2001 anime series.

In the 2021 anime series, he more closely resembles his initial manga appearance rather than his redesign in the Shaman King Kang Zeng Bang Shaman Files, but with the addition of a black tank top.
