Chapter 15 (Super Star)

Chiharu promises to wait for Sakutaro.

Chiharu worked at a café that Sakurai Sakutaro frequented,[2] and the two fell in love. When he told her that he was leaving to fight in the war, she promised to wait for his return.[5] After his death during the war, she gave birth to their daughter, whom she named Saki in honor of Sakutaro.[3]

For many years, Chiharu worked as a maid for Oume Kaizou.[4]

Decades later, she was retired and living in Kakehashi, a senior care home in Nagano. One day, her grandaughter, Misaki—who was working as a maid for Kaizou—told Chiharu about Alumi Numbirch's strange visit, and the mention of "Sakurai's grudge" piqued Chiharu's interest.[6] A few nights later, Chisaki was with her grandmother when she received a call from Kaizou, who had woken up in the hospital and was desperate to get back to his mansion. Sensing Sakutaro's return, Chiharu decided to change clothes and accompany Misaki, despite her granddaughter's protests. As they drove, Misaki wondered about her grandmother's changed demeanor.[4]

When they arrived at the mansion, Chiharu picked up Sakutaro's pistol and asked Kaizou about it. Initially confused why she was there and that she was related to Misaki, Kaizou panicked and told her to put it down. Kamogawa Yohsuke's intervention, however, prevented Kaizou from divulging more information.[7] Chiharu then watched as Sakutaro and his plane returned to fight Kaizou. Alumi took the pistol and delivered it to Asakura Hana.[8] Alumi then tried to usher Chiharu and the others away from the battle, but Chiharu refused, confident in Sakutaro's ability.

After defeating Kaizou, Sakutaro reunited with Chiharu, who could see his ghost because she was close to death. She was still pleased to see him again after all the years, and introduced him to Misaki, their granddaughter. Chiharu then dropped dead, and her ghost left with Sakutaro to the afterlife.[3]
