After discovering that he was within Hell, thanks to Chocoloves description, Asakura Yoh is greeted by Itako Anna's Oh-Oni. It is revealed that the Oh-Oni was set within hell as a guide to all Shaman whom wish to reach Divine Shaman status, all of this made possible by Lady Sati. Guided by the Oh-Oni, Asakura Yoh is given his instruction: He must defeat the opponent awaiting for him. Asking if he is still getting along with "mother", Asakura Yoh sooths his worry by stating yes. Oh-Oni then states he cannot go any further, leaving Asakura Yoh to face his task alone; his job effectively done. The Cho-oni (超鬼, lit. Super Oni,) is a type of Oni in the Manga series of Shaman King.

The Cho-oni's are introduced in the manga during Asakura Yoh's training in hell. These Oni seem to be the strongest Oni within the Great Spirit, capable of slaying Asakura Yohken with ease. These creatures appear rather sadistic and seem to employ underhanded tactics, striking Yoh with an arrow while he is distracted.[1]
