The Oh-Oni (大鬼 Ō Oni) is a fictional character in the Shaman King manga and anime series. It is an oni that can be summoned by Kyōyama Anna and her son, Asakura Hana.
About[]
A gigantic red oni, the Oh-Oni is the combination of over a thousand oni and has the speed of an arrow and the strength of a hundred bulls.[2] It was unwittingly created by Kyōyama Anna when her uncontrollable Reishi power made a Naka-Oni evolve into an Oh-Oni.[3] The spirits within it are connected by a chain of resentment, giving it an infinite power,[4] and it can control them remotely and individually.[5] The Oh-Oni's intelligence makes it more dangerous in battle, as well as enabling it to speak and manipulate others. Although it behaves sadistically, it speaks in a calm tone and even calls Anna its mother.[6] By consuming additional oni, it can regenerate and evolve, boosting its strength further. After doing so, it gained a thick mustache and clothing.[7]
Oh-Oni as it appears in Hell
When Asakura Yoh defeated it,[5] the Oh-Oni was sent to Hell, where it struggled until Sati Saigan saved and befriended it. Afterwards, the Oh-Oni became a guide for those whom Sati sends to Hell for training, including Yoh.[8] The Oh-Oni, together with the Cho-Oni, Asakura Yohken, and Mosuke, later appeared within the Great Spirit as the escorts of Hao's mother, Asanoha.[9]
The Oh-Oni was among the oni which Shaman King Hao had placed in Asakura Hana's body. It was first summoned out when Ichihara Ryuji almost killed Hana. It punched Asakura Luca's O.S. "Byg-Salem" before the oni was beheaded by the shrine spirit's beam. In response, all of the oni pieces combined to become Daidarabotchi.[10]
Attacks[]
- Oni Drum Roll (鬼太鼓 Onidaiko): Oh-Oni summons smaller onis to attack from the stump of its arm.[5]
- Phantom Oni Left (幻の鬼左 Maboroshi no Oni Hidari, Kodansha: "Phantom Demon Slap"): Emulating Kyōyama Anna, Oh-Oni delivers a left-handed slap.[11]
Anime/Manga Difference[]
Due to Anna and Yoh's past never being mentioned, Oh-Oni is never seen in the 2001 anime series.

Oh-Oni in spirit ball mode
- Although never shown in the series, Hiroyuki Takei has drawn the Oh-Oni in spirit ball mode, on a piece of promotional material.
- Anna's Oh-Oni's medium were used, by Asakura Kino, to create a 1080 prayer beads.[5]
- An Oh-Oni appears as a boss in the video game Shaman King: Master of Spirits 2. Because the game was based on the English version of the anime, in which Oh-Oni does not appear, he is colored blue, but if hit enough, he will turn red and his name was changed into "Great Ogre".
