Funbari no Uta (ふんばりの詩 lit. "Funbari Poem") is a series of short comics written by Hiroyuki Takei centering around the characters' lives in Funbari Hill. Most of these comics were initially published in Akamaru Jump before being collected in the various tankobon releases.
Some of the early chapters were adapted into a short OVA, which premiered at Jump Festa 2002.

While paying for the groceries, he finds a note in his wallet from Anna. She had included some extra money so he could a CD for himself. When he returns home, he reveals that he instead bought Awaya Ringo's album for her; however, she reveals that she had already bought a copy. | |||

On New Year's Eve, Yoh and Anna are watching the Red and White Song Battle and disagree about which side will win. Manta shows up to remind them of their plan to visit the shrine at midnight. The three go and enjoy the festival. | |||

Anna decides that she and Yoh will attend the Olympics, even though Yoh has no interest in sports. She drags him out of the house so they can go get passports and see the competition in person. However, Yoh spots a four-leaf clover and mentions that it will bring good luck. Frustrated, Anna gives up on the venture, opting to go grocery shopping instead, which Yoh considers good luck. | |||

While watching Sab on TV, Yoh voices his hunger for gomokuzushi. Anna offers to buy the ingredients for him, which overwhelms him with gratitude. However, Anna does not actually know what goes in the sushi and opts to include tuna fish eyes (since gomoku literally means "five eyes"). | |||

Yoh and Anna happen upon a set of six Jizo statues. They both reflect on the lore behind the states. Yoh fantasizes about one of the statues moving to help them, but Anna dismisses the idea of rocks moving, which shatters one of the statues. | |||

Anna finds an 8mm film reel, and Honoh Tamegoroh reveals that it holds recordings of his family. They decide to hold a movie night, but when they find that the projector screen had deteriorated, they use the steam rising off the hot spring instead. |

The Funbari Onsen Saga[]
Set in 2007, The Funbari Onsen Saga (ふんばり温泉編 Funbari Onsen Hen) focuses on the travels of Asakura Hana and Umemiya Ryunosuke as they search out the Five Elemental Warriors ahead of their reunion at Funbari Onsen.

While Hana and Ryu are locating one of the warriors in the mountains, Hana's mother discusses his safety with Ponchi and Conchi. When the two suggest that they could have gone with them, she assures them that Ryu is enough, and it is revealed that the worried woman is actually Tamamura Tamao. | |||
05 | Funbari Poem (ふんばりの詩 Funbari no Uta) | ||
Tamao reveals her regret about not telling Hana the truth and promises to tell him the truth about his parents, once he, Ryu, and the other returns. She also reveals her desire to become an enka singer. The chapter concludes with a montage of the whereabouts of the Five Legendary Warriors preparing to reunite at Funbari Hill. |
