Gein (幻陰 Gein, Chinese pinyin: Huàn'īn, 4Kids: "Ginny Tao") is a fictional character in the Shaman King 2001 anime series. She is an assassin for the Tao Family[1] and is the older sister of Soumei and Kyou.[2]

Appearance[]

Gein is a tall and slender woman with dark cyan hair which is curly and frizzy at the back. She wears a brown tank-top with a Chinese collar that exposes her midriff accompanied by Chinese-style short pants and brown knee-high boots.

Personality[]

Gein is arrogant, confidently stating that her spirit ally is superior to that of Tao Jun's when the latter's failed against Asakura Yoh. She also proved to be easily frustrated, as she regarded Yoh with a furious expression when she and Yugai lost to him in battle.[1]

She has also shown to have a vengeful side, as she and her siblings wanted to defeat Tao Ren when they thought that they were betrayed by him. She does, however, seem to be somewhat sensitive, as seen when she became embarrassed when her brother and sister, in tears, publicly exclaimed to their opponents her lack of romantic experience (not being able to realize her dream of being a ballerina in the English anime) as a result of her dedicating most of her time serving the Tao Family.[2]

Abilities and Powers[]

She is a Dàoshì who uses talismans to control Jiang Shi.

History[]

Past[]

It is possible that Gein spent most of her past in China living with her family and training to be a Daoshi.

Coming to Tokyo[]

After Tao Ren and Jun were defeated by Asakura Yoh, the Tao Family sent Gein to Tokyo to defeat Yoh. She arrived by plane and shortly, after visiting Jun and Ren, engaged Yoh in battle. Her spirit ally, Yugai, duplicated herself and attacked Yoh. However, after her duplicates were destroyed, Yoh easily defeated Yugai. Gein, frustrated by this, left after glaring at her enemy.[1]

Shaman Fight Second Round[]

Gein returns as a participant in the Shaman Fight, leading her own team called Team "Noroshi", with her younger siblings Kyou and Soumei as teammates. They wanted revenge against the Tao Family, especially Ren, for betraying their family honor which puts her family discarded and their efforts meaningless. Upon the official match against Team "The Ren", Ren faced the team alone by accepting all their attacks as his way of apology. Their hatred soon faded when he showed them the Tao Family's heirloom, the Bâo-Lèi Sword, as his oath to be Shaman King as his way to accept everything. Soon the team leaders fought with the Big Over Souls with nothing to linger them back, resulting in Ren's victory and Gein relieved.[2]

She roots for Yoh in the final battle against Asakura Hao.[3]

Anime/Manga Difference[]

Gein is a 2001 anime-only character and as such does not appear in the manga series nor in the 2021 anime series. In the English dub of the 2001 anime series, she is a cousin of Jun and Ren and has a British accent just like her cousins.
