With his Hamo-Style Onmyōjutsu (羽茂式陰陽術 Hamo-shiki Onmyōjutsu), Tadatomo was capable of summoning shikigami, in particular the pair Zenki and Goki and the snake Hakujoshi-boshi.[1][2]
His greatest creation was the super corporeal human-shikigami, Daidarabotchi, which was made by forcing Daitaro's body to absorb a vast amount of oni and chimimoryo.[2]
History[]
Tadatomo and Yamada Doma were rivals as onmyōji. Tadatomo eventually defeated Doma and took Doma's position as the Head Onmyōji for the Emperor. Ever since then, Doma would attempt to disrupt the annual exorcism rituals before the Emperor, and Tadatomo always quelled these disruptions. However, in truth, Tadatomo and Doma had been secretly working together and using the annual exorcisms to experiment in the creation of a human-shikigami.
In 981, after noticing an increase in the number of oni in Kyoto, Tadatomo used his shamanic powers to divine the source and found Mappa Doji lying in the streets surrounded by oni. Tadatomo had his apprentice, Daitaro, exterminate the oni, but when the oni suddenly increased in huge numbers, Tadatomo was forced to step in and summoned Zenki and Goki to deal with them all. Recognizing Mappa Doji's shamanic potential and deducing that he must have been the boy who had killed Densen Hoshi, Tadatomo decided to take Mappa Doji as another apprentice.
Mappa Doji quickly became Tadatomo's favorite student. This made Daitaro jealous, so he sought out Doma and conspired to prove himself at the annual exorcism ritual, which was part of Tadatomo and Doma's secret plan. When the chimimoryo and oni swarmed the ritual, Tadatomo sacrificed Daitaro and forced the boy's body to absorb the spirits, successfully creating the human-shikigami Daidarabotchi.[1] Mappa Doji attempted to interfere, but Tadatomo restrained the boy. However, Tadatomo's success was short-lived as the Daidarabotchi immediately killed him.[2]
