Hang Zang-Ching (
Years after the Shaman Fight, Zang-Ching becomes an employee of the Leidi Group and works closely with Tao Ren and Jun.[4][5]
Appearance[]
Hang is a very obese Chinese man, with very long pointed down eyebrows as well as an equally long black Fu Manchu mustache. In his usual outfit, he is completely shirtless, exposing his large stomach and wears black armbands, a pair of black Chinese shoes, and black pants with a white obi tied around his waist. His most distinguishable feature is a large red tattoo on his stomach. He also wears a pair of small, round-framed, black sunglasses, until Tao Ren breaks them.[6] He later replaces them with a similar pair but with more angular frames.[3]
When in public, he wears a dark green Chinese military suit with a red scarf and hat. [7]
Five years before the Shaman Fight, he was noticeably more obese and had short light-colored hair and wore a Hawaiian shirt with black shorts.[8]
Personality[]
Zang-Ching once wanted to become a famous Chinese pop idol, but due to him being overweight, he was never given a chance.
Abilities[]
Zang-Ching was taught the Shamanic Oracle by Asakura Hao.[9]
Spirit[]
- See More: Shion-Shion
His Guardian Ghost is a giant panda spirit named Shion-Shion that he met at a zoo. The golden gong that Zang-Ching uses as a medium was once Shion-Shion's favorite toy.[10]
History[]
Past[]
Zang-Ching was born on March 16, 1966 into a family of doctors in Shanghai, China. His school grades were great, but he had a terrible complex about his weight.[10] He joined Hao because he wanted to create a world where physical appearance was not important at all.
Shaman Fight in Tokyo[]
Not much is known about his performance during the preliminary round, but Zang-Ching did win two matches and advanced to the main competition. Zang-Ching and the other qualifying competitors attended the opening ceremony at Mimata Hall.[11]
Traveling through America[]
A month later, at Yokocha Base, Zang-Ching and Hao's other followers interrupted Hao, who was playing around with Asakura Yoh and friends, so that they would not miss the Patch Jumbo that would take them to America. Hao and his followers sat together on the plane. All of the shamans were tasked with locating and reaching the Patch Village within three months. While still tens of thousands of feet in the air, the jumbo jet was revealed to be an Over Soul shortly before it was dematerialized, dropping all of its passengers. Hao and his allies rode on the back of the Spirit of Fire and safely descended to the ground.[12]
Weeks later, Zang-Ching, Mohamed Tabarsi, Bill, Boris Tepes Dracula, and Damayaji encountered Yoh and his friends at Mesa Verdede. Zang-Ching and the others were unbothered by Boris killing Damayaji, their own ally.[13] While Boris fought Yoh's group, Zang-Ching noted that Boris was getting overheated and out of control. Mohamed agreed and decided that the three of them should head on into the Patch Village, leaving Boris behind.[14]
The three waited inside to ambush any following shamans. Zang-Ching and Mohamed confronted Yoh's group and the X-Laws, who had defeated and killed Boris. When Bill attacked the X-Laws from behind, they countered with their Archangels, easily defeating him. Zang-Ching wanted to fight the X-Laws, but Mohamed convinced him that retreat would be better, even though it meant abandoning Bill.[15]
Hao's surviving followers eventually reunited at the Patch Village.[16]
Shaman Fight Second Round[]
Months later, the competing shamans were transported to the island Tokyo.[17] Zang-Ching sat in the audience with Hao and his companions and watched the matches of the tournament.[18][19]
After receiving a report from Patch Officiants Magna and Nichrom,[20] Hao and his followers headed out to gather the souls of their competitors, intending to feed them to the Spirit of Fire. Zang-Ching, Mohamed, and Peyote attacked Team "The Ren". Ren kicked Zang-Ching in the face and then split his gong in two. After Peyote's O.S. "Grande Fantasma" stabbed Ren, Horohoro and Chocolove retaliated, but Hao's followers beat them back. Zang-Ching mocked Horohoro and Chocolove while he continued to thrash them. When the boys inquired about their furyoku quantities, Zang-Ching pointed out the mental limitations that come from learning about such numbers. As predicted, Horohoro and Chocolove were shaken by the lower numbers compared to Hao and his followers. Zang-Ching then prepared to kill the boys but was stopped by Yoh, whom Zang-Ching had initially mistaken for Hao. With his O.S. "Spirit of Sword", Yoh defeated all three. Nichrom ordered Hao's followers to kill the boys, but they chose to retreat instead due to the arrival of Team "Funbari Onsen".[21]
Hao and his followers watched the match between Team "Mariachi" and Team "Kabbalahers".[22] Afterwards, Hao and his followers (except Bill and Brocken) retired to an abandoned Japanese fortress on the island. When Opacho reported that Ren had been revived, they concluded that Yoh had dropped out of the competition, so Zang-Ching and Peyote suggested attacking the X-Laws; however, Hao did not see them as a threat to his ascension.[23]
That evening, Zang-Ching, Mohamed, and Peyote went to the beach where Bill and Brocken had fought the Icemen and Horohoro. They found Bill grievously injured, and Brocken reported that it had been done by the Archangel Zelel, so the three men headed out to seek revenge while Brocken carried back Bill's body. After Peyote and Mohamed attacked the base where Yoh's group was, Zang-Ching snuck aboard O.S. "Mephitso E" which the group was using to escape. However, Zang-Ching's ambush was blocked by Ren, and Zang-Ching fell from the Over Soul.[24] Gandhara later forced the three men to retreat.[25]
Hao and his followers gathered where Yoh was hiding from the Golem. When Yoh challenged him, Hao had Zang-Ching and Peyote individually attack Yoh in order to demonstrate the difference in their power. After Yoh's friends came to Yoh's defense, Hao called for his allies to leave and left behind the Golem.[26]
A couple days later, at their base, Hao commenced the Star Festival and sent Team "Tsuki-Gumi" to deal with Team "Funbari Onsen".[3] Team "Tsuki-Gumi" interrupted the meeting between Gandhara and Team "Funbari Onsen", and Zang-Ching gloated about the deaths of the X-Laws, including the destruction of Lyserg Diethel's body, which would prevent Gandhara's plan for the Five Elemental Warriors. Angered, Umemiya Ryunosuke struck Zang-Ching in the face, but Zang-Ching laughed it off and threatened to destroy Asakura Yoh's body as well, further angering Ryu. When Sati stood in Ryu's way and insisted that he not kill anyone, Zang-Ching stabbed her in the back and pointed out that such a belief was what would prevent them from ever stopping Hao.[27] Sati's death destabilized the other members of Gandhara, and Team "Tsuki-Gumi" quickly and easily killed them. Ryu lashed out and overpowered Zang-Ching; however, before Ryu could kill Zang-Ching, Johann Faust VIII revived Yoh, who knocked down Ryu and reminded him to remain calm. When Yoh expressed his plan to have Sati revived next, Team "Tsuki-Gumi" tried to stop him, but Yoh defeated all three by himself. Hao's followers were then all called away by a message through their Oracle Bells.[28]
Hao's followers were ordered to deal with a fleet of human warships off the coast of Tokyo. They questioned if fighting normal humans was the right thing to do. After both Peyote and Mohamed openly voiced their doubt about Hao, Zang-Ching asked them to stop because they were scaring him. He was suddenly cut down by Peyote's O.S. "Grande Fantasma".[29]
Before the final twelve shamans left for Mū, Hao's deceased followers were revived (except Peyote and Mohammed whose bodies were too damaged).[30] While the Asakura and Tao Families had a beach party, Hao's followers sat by themselves in depression, but listened in as Anna read off the furyoku levels of the shamans still fighting on Mū.[31]
Invading the Plants[]
After Hao became the Shaman King, Zang-Ching, Bill, and Brocken boarded the train of souls inside the Great Spirit and rode it up to the highest commune. Zang-Ching echoed Luchist's request for Hao to revive everyone Hao had killed upon becoming Shaman King.[32]
Day After Maize[]
After being revived, Zang-Ching returned to his normal life but was unmotivated due to burnout. Several years later, when Zang-Ching was struggling, Ren hired him, along with Bill and Brocken, to work for the Leidi Group, a large electronics manufacturing company. The three quickly rose through the company's ranks and eventually became the personal bodyguards for Tao Ren, Jun, and Men.[4][33]
Red Crimson[]
One day, Zang-Ching, Bill, and Brocken were out escorting Men when Kamogawa Yohsuke, Black Maiden, and Dong Yonhon visited the family's apartment and killed Jeanne.[34] Later, after Jeanne's body was discovered, Zang-Ching, Bill, and Brocken listened in as Ren comforted Men. Afterwards, Ren told them to return to work, and they questioned how the Tao Family and Jun would react.[35]
Zang-Ching and Bill accompanied Jun on her visit to Paris, France. As they flew back to the Tao Family's estate, they came across Horohoro fighting Enki, a member of the Dong Family.[36] After Jun killed Enki, the group continued on their way but were confronted by Dong Honhon. Although Jun shot at her with an RPG, Honhon's Over Soul protected her and chopped through the helicopter's tail, causing it to fall. As they fell, Zang-Ching used Shion-Shion to grab and swing the wreckage at Honhon, but she dodged by rocketing up into the air and chased after Jun. After Bill used the Big Guys to cushion their fall, the men raced to catch up to Jun and Honhon.[37] Along the way, Zang-Ching informed Horohoro about the Dong Family and the legend of Keiten. However, the men were stopped by the Tao Family and their Jiang Shi. They all interrupted Jun and Honhon's fight, but Honhon disappeared with an explosion.[38]
Anime/Manga differences[]
In the 2001 anime series, he is seen most of the time with his team partner Turbine. He is defeated by Tao Ren in the final assault.
