Ibuki Gakko (伊吹ガッコ Ibuki Gakko), born Ibuki Gakuko (伊吹岳子 Ibuki Gakuko),[2] is a fictional character from the Shaman King Flowers manga and anime series. For the Flower of Maize, he is a member of Team Hao as its chief Anti-Oni Specialist.[3] He is also a descendant of Asakura Hao's first life.[4]
Appearance[]
Gakko has multicolored hair in a messy pompadour: red on top and center while blue and braided on the sides. He wears a black and gold tracksuit with the Babylon brand's name emblazoned on the arms and legs; the brand name and dog mascot are also on the jacket's back and left chest. His shoes are black and gold like his tracksuit. On both wrists he wears a trio of bracelets labeled and colored blue, green, and red. He also wears a pair of fishhook-shaped earrings.
Personality[]
Gakko is aloof, likes to fight, and does not care much for tradition as seen in his conversation with Namaha. Gakko also enjoys teasing Hana and getting him riled up.[5]
He declares his wish to be the strongest man alive.[6]
Abilities and Powers[]
Gakko is capable of the Cloud technique and can summon a copy of Asakura Hao from his third life.[4]
Spirits[]
- See More: Namaha
Gakko's Guardian Ghost is Namaha, a girl who changes her appearance in battle in order to intimidate her opponents.[7] With Namaha, Gakko creates an Over Soul which gives him an armor-like appearance with a straw cloak. He holds a large cannon in one hand and a large knife in the other.[3]
History[]
Flowers[]
Having arrived in Funbari Hill a day early, Gakko and Namaha visited the local cemetery since Gakko wanted to look for additional Guardian Ghosts. They encountered Asakura Hana there, and Gakko teased Hana for being lonely and talking to himself, which led to them fighting. Gakko was surprised to learn that Hana was a shaman as well. As Hana began summoning out various oni, Gakko shifted to his other Over Soul, "Ogre Hunter", and introduced himself as an Anti-Oni Specialist and a member of Team Hao for the Flower of Maize. As they continued fighting, Namaha reasoned out who Hana was: the heir of the Asakura Family and the boss of Team Hao. Gakko eventually managed to bisect Hana's condensed Naka-Oni armor-type Over Soul, defeating him. Afterwards, Gakko and Namaha's bickering angered Hana, who lashed out at them, but Alumi Numbirch neutralized the oni and punished Hana before welcoming Gakko and Namaha onto the team. Gakko then listened as Alumi informed Hana, Asakura Yohane, and the others on what exactly the situation was.[8]
The next morning at Funbari Onsen, both Gakko and Namaha explained to Hana the rules for the Flower of Maize. When asked, Gakko admitted that his wish would be to become the strongest man in the world.[6] Later that morning, Tao Men attacked Hana as a test of his abilities. Gakko successfully blocked Shamash's axe, but Men's "Chāo Mǎ Lóng" destroyed Gakko's "Ogre Hunter". Refusing to run away and ignoring his friends' warning, Hana summoned out Daidarabotchi, and although the Yami-Oni overpowered Men, the strain on his body also killed Hana.[9]
Alumi introduced Men as another member of Team Hao and then ordered the others to bring Hana's corpse back to Funbari Onsen. As they placed the body in the freezer, Alumi informed them of Hana's situation in the Mini Ashura Hell and suggested that they train together. After Alumi left, the others discovered that Jeanne's Iron Maiden had been replaced by a fake. They were then attacked by the Golem and confronted by members of Team YVS: Redseb, Seyrarm, and Black Maiden.[10] Gakko watched as Men lashed out at Black Maiden but was stopped by an Over Soul created with his own mother's spirit. The Hana-Gumi Waitresses and Tamamura Tamao interrupted the fight, stopping Black Maiden from killing Men.[11] After Men's injuries were treated, the inn's staff sat down with the Muntzer siblings to discuss the situation, while Gakko and Yohane poorly hid in the bushes. When Gakko yelled at Redseb, Kanna threw cup at Gakko and told him to be quiet. Redseb wanted Tamao to dissolve Team Hao, but she requested that her answer wait until Hana returned from Hell.[12] Later, Team Hao rested around the cooler holding Hana's body.[13] While Hana was away, Gakko stayed in Hana's room at the inn.
The morning after Hana and Alumi returned from Nagano, Tamao suggested that Team Hao take a trip to Kyoto. Since Sati Saigan had also headed to Kyoto, Hana questioned what they would do there, to which Gakko suggested that they would have to help with the upkeep of Buddha statues. Gakko then teased Hana for a racy magazine with bookmarks he had found in Hana's room. Once Ryu and Men returned from shopping, all of Team Hao had a celebration for Hana's return. As soon as they finished eating,[5] they took to the train to Kyoto, arriving in the evening.[14] However, no one had made a hotel reservation for them to stay. When the kids were unable to find a place with vacancies, Hana suggested staying at the branch Asakura Family's estate, but Alumi loudly protested due to its wrecked state. The kids then overheard Nakaizumi Yakumo complaining about his guests' sudden cancellation. When he noticed the kids, he invited them to stay at his inn, Chizubo, which they accepted. As Yakumo drove them up the mountain, Gakko yelled at Yakumo to keep his eyes on the road while driving.
Once they reached the inn, the kids marveled at it, having expected a shabbier temple. Gakko questioned how expensive the stay would be but also remembered that Men had a black credit card. Yakumo then informed them that the inn had no phone or cell phone reception before he headed back down the mountain for dinner supplies.[15]
