He and his gang appears before Asakura Hana in the cemetery wanting to take the title of "Funbari's Strongest" from him. They are however all beaten by Hana combined with Amidamaru.

While recuperating at the hospital he meets Hana again again and is about to start a fight with him again, until Umemiya Ryunosuke steps in between them and drags Hana away. Recognising him as the first "Wooden Sword" Ryu, he wonders who Hana actually is.

Later he is approached Asakura Luka, who asks him to dispose of Hana. Luka and Ryuji later meet Hana and Yohane at the Funbari Mall, where Luka manages to trap both Amidamaru and Daikyoh, turning them into hitodama stones. Without his spirit to fight, Hana is mortally wounded by Ryuji, much to his surprise. The shock of seeing Hana in a pool of blood awakens Ryuji's hidden ability to see spirits, and Luka explains that Hana's strength comes from Amidamaru.
