Kado (カドゥ Kadu) is a fictional character in the Shaman King manga and anime series. A member of Gandhara,[3] he participates in the Shaman Fight as part of Team "Myooh".[4]

After the Shaman Fight, Kado submits to Daremoine and works alongside Oyamada Mansumi.[5][6]

Appearance[]

Kado is a slightly overweight, dark-skinned man with shaggy, short black hair, and facial hair on his chin. He normally wears a Hawaiian shirt, an orange undershirt, denim pants, and white shoes.

Personality[]

He is a follower of Sati Saigan's ideals and always has a cheerful personality, even dancing when attacking an opponent.[7] He fancies chicken curry, and his favorite pastime is to create new fighting techniques while dancing.

Abilities and Powers[]

Like most of the Gandhara, Kado has the ability to nullify Furyoku[8] and underwent training in Hell to increase his furyoku and become a Kami-class shaman.[9]

Spirit[]

See More: Aizen Myooh | Mara

Kado's Guardian Ghost is Aizen,[7] a Kami-class Buddhist spirit.[3] He utilizes the Over Soul's six arms to rapidly shoot arrows that can hunt down any spirit no matter how fast they are.[7]

In the past, he was possessed by Mara and his Over Soul took the form of Ganesha.[10] After leaving Gandhara, Kado returned to using Mara.[5]

History[]

Past[]

Kado was born on December 12, 1953 in New Delhi, India.[1] Kado was living in India and was married, having three children. He had become wealthy by opening a chain of curry restaurants, with the success leading him to achieve the status of a Maharajah. He eventually succumbed to his greed. Senju speculates that the hard work he put into achieving his status made him susceptible to avarice and as a result, became possessed by Mara. His family could no longer stand his strange behavior and ultimately left him. Being heartbroken, Kado fell into depression, and constantly threw parties and wedding ceremonies, all while drinking, as a way to forget the sadness of losing his family.

In 1976, Kado offered money and lodging to Sati and her companions in exchange for Sati's hand in marriage. When Sati learned of Kado's story, she decided to change him into a better person and managed to free him from Mara's possession. Letting go of his grief, Kado decided to sell off his restaurants and everything else, and accompanied Sati on her journeys as gratitude for helping him.[11]

Coming to Tokyo[]

Kado and the other qualifying competitors attended the opening ceremony at Mimata Hall.[12]

A month later, Kado and the other competitors gathered at Yokocha Base and were flown to America in the Patch Jumbo. The shamans were tasked with locating and reaching the Patch Village within three months. While still tens of thousands of feet in the air, the jumbo jet was revealed to be an Over Soul shortly before it was dematerialized, dropping all of its passengers. Gandhara rode on the group's elephant and descended safely to the ground.[13]

The members of Gandhara successfully reached the village and formed teams for the tournament, with Kado joining Jackson and Yainage as Team "Myooh".[4]

Shaman Fight Second Round[]

After hearing Asakura Yoh's kind and pure-hearted prayer, Sati and Gandhara went to aid Umemiya Ryunosuke, who had been mortally wounded by Peyote Diaz and Turbine. The show of force intimidated Hao's followers into retreating.[14] Later that night, Ryu brought the bodies of Chocolove McDonnell and Shaft to Gandhara for revival.[15]

In their first match of the tournament, Team "Myooh" went up against Team "The Ren". Tao Ren tried to attack all three at once, but they were unharmed due to their furyoku-nullification. Kado and Jackson then stepped back and watched as Yainage challenged Ren.[16] After Yainage lost his composure and struggled against Ren, Jackson interrupted, knocking Yainage out of the ring and seemingly cutting down Ren. When Chocolove charged in to fight, Kado stepped in, too, and pierced Chocolove's torso with a large arrow from Aizen Myooh. Kado then turned his attacks toward Usui Horokeu; however, all the arrows were blocked with ice before they could reach Horohoro.[17] Using his new O.S. Nipopo Gauntlets, Horo easily overpowered both Jackson and Kado and their Over Souls. Team "Myooh" eventually ran out of furyoku and lost the match.[18]

When Sati wanted the Five Elemental Warriors to train in Hell, Team "Myooh" ambushed Team "The Ren" in the bath and sent them to Hell.[19] Afterwards, they stood watch over the bodies in order to ensure that the boys could be revived.[20] Anticipating Team "Hana-Gumi"'s attack, Team "Myooh" had Tao Jun revive Team "The Ren" early, and the boys easily forced the girls back. When Brocken Meyer called for Team "Hana-Gumi" to retreat, Ren wanted to pursue them, but Jun and Kado convinced him not to do so.[21]

Invading the Plants[]

While Asakura Yoh and his friends invaded the Plants, Kado, alongside the rest of Team "Myooh" and Lady Sati, traveled to Hell in order to obtain the remaining four of the Five Grand Elemental Spirits. There Kado fought against Mephistopheles, the guardian of the Spirit of Wind. Despite losing an arm, Kado succeeded in defeating the ruler of Hell and retrieved the Elemental Spirit.[22] The next morning, all four Grand Elemental Spirits had been retrieved, and the Gandhara members boarded the Sphinx so they could deliver the spirits to Mū. However, before they reached the underwater continent, Hao awoke as the Shaman King and destroyed the Sphinx and everyone inside it.[23] Despite this, the Spirit of Wind still managed to reach Chocolove in the Great Spirit.[24]

During the fight against Shaman King Hao, Kado and the rest of Gandhara boarded the train of souls which traveled to the highest level in order to support the Five Elemental Warriors.[25] Afterwards, Hao returned the Gandhara members to life.

In 2014, Kado attended the Daremoine meeting in Kyoto Tower and monitored Yun Namukada's fight with Peyote Diaz. He vouched for Yun's capabilities with Kali, because he had raised her from childhood to handle a Kami-class spirit.[5]

Later that night, after other New Trance battles broke out around the city and Asakura Hana intruded on the executives' meeting, Kado joined Oyamada Mansumi in watching Hana's fight with Asakura Yoh.[26] Although Kado and Mansumi agreed that the destruction in and around the tower had ruined the ritual, they both marveled at the power of Daidarabotchi. Kado suggested that they evacuate, and Oyamada Manta suggested the same and revealed that he had made new arrangements for the ritual to take place in the Tokyo Skytree.[6]

While riding to Tokyo, Kado and Mansumi continued monitoring Hana and Yoh's fight and talked about their relationships with their own sons. They both agreed that Spimea Lasso's control in Daremoine needed to be stopped.[27] They were then shocked to see Hana successfully manifest O.S. "Ike-Oni" and overpower Yoh's O.S. "Spirit of Sword: Byakkō"; however, Yoh countered with his New Trance "The Earth", forcing apart Hana and Daitaro.[28]

Anime/Manga Difference[]

Like many of the Gandhara members, Kado does not appear in the 2001 anime series.

Trivia[]

  • His name is a reference to Ito-Yokado, a Japanese supermarket chain.
