Kamogawa Yohsuke (鴨川 羊介 Kamogawa Yōsuke) is the main antagonist of the Shaman King Flowers manga and anime series. He is the General of Team YVS for the Flower of Maize[2] and the boss of Fra YVS' Daremoine.[3]
He originally first appeared in Hiroyuki Takei's one shot, Yahabe.
Appearance[]
Yohsuke is a tall man with short black hair that sometimes covers one of his bright green eyes. He wears a white suit, with a green and yellow patterned tie depicting an Eye of Providence.[4] Despite his appearance, he is actually only 13 years old.[1]
As a child, he had similar, albeit shorter hair with one fringe sticking up at an angle. He wore a school uniform, consisting of a red tie, white dress shirt, and blue jeans and brown shoes. He also wore glasses.
Personality[]
Yohsuke appears confident of his own abilities, assuring his companion that he is certain that he can create a wonderful new world for him. He is also rather arrogant and believes that money is power and so struggling to improve one's strength is pointless as one can just earn the power they need through wealth. In addition, he is rather blunt with his words and isn't one for subtlety.
As a child, he was very disillusioned with the world believing the only talents or contributions to the world he had was his interest in the TCG, God-Hand Q. Even then, he contemplated suicide after realizing he wasn't too good at that, being eliminated in the first round of a God-Hand Q tournament.
Yohsuke is at heart a misanthropic nihilist with a sociopathic amount of cruelty, being capable of commiting murder and genocide without any restraint or guilt. He was in fact able to directly shoot at Tao Jeanne and kill her with a smile on his face, while lying to Niaes Varge about the deed. Yohsuke's current demeanor is largely a result of YVS' manipulation who took advantage of him on his youth when he had poor self-esteem, and was emotionally vulnerable which fed into the growing hate within Yohsuke. In fact, Yohsuke's primary motivation is to make the current world "a little bit saner", evidencing his overall negative outlook on reality.
As a result Yohsuke "relates" with Hana whom he views as a peer, who is also a socially problematic child whose life circumstances have nurtured anger and hatred within him, viewing himself in Hana, and thus seeks to make Hana his ally.
Abilities and Powers[]
Yohsuke has no innate shamanic abilities and must use the robot YVS' power to see spirits. The robot's powers are dispensed in the form of trading cards, called YVS Cards. The cards are purchased from YVS, with costs ranging from ¥500 to several trillion. In addition, the cards are finite in use as Yohsuke can only use each card once, though he can combine their various effects. However, he can purchase as many as he likes, so long as he can pay for them. The cost of the cards is of little concern to Yohsuke, who confidently asserts that he can use the cards themselves to win more money.[1]
Spirits[]
- See More: Lucifer
Although Yohsuke was given the robot YVS to serve as his Guardian Ghost,[1] Fra YVS always intended for Yohsuke to be fused with Lucifer, the Devil King and former chief angel, and for the restored angel to be the dominant personality.[5] The ritual to bring about this fusion was initially set up in Kyoto Tower[6] but had to be relocated to Tokyo Skytree,[7] where it was successfully completed.[8]
History[]
Past[]
In 2012, Yohsuke entered the Godhand Q World Championship and was eliminated in the first round. Feeling depressed about his life and disillusioned with the world, he decided to jump off of the Tokyo Skytree, the world's tallest tower, in one last attempt at fame. He was stopped by the robot YVS, who asked for the boy's money. In exchange for ¥500, YVS offered him a time-warping card, allowing him to jump forward or backward in time by 12 hours, and promised additional cards after their contract is formed. Yohsuke accepted, putting his coin into the robot, and then boldly jumped off of the tower. Instead of dying, Yohsuke woke up in his room 12 hours earlier. Believing it had all been a dream, he was alarmed to see YVS in his room. YVS then explained how the cards and their mechanics work and suggested how they could be used to amass wealth.
On his way to school, Yohsuke encountered Kamemaguma and Tsuruto, who taunted him about his low skill at the Godhand Q game. Because he had been sent back in time, Yohsuke recalled the exact words they had said to him as they taunted him. Kagome came to Yohsuke defense, so he invited her to the tournament later that day. After hearing more about YVS' worldview, Yohsuke agreed to use YVS' cards during the tournament, planning to use the prize money to help him escape his pen. In the middle of Yohsuke's second match, YVS spotted men from the secret society that had created it and forced Yohsuke to flee, much to Yohsuke's protests.
Once outside, Yohsuke stopped running and confronted the men. As he requested a card that would be able to drive them away, a large assortment of helicopters, tanks, and armed soldiers advanced on them. YVS activated his strongest card, "Obelisk", which destroyed their enemies and made it appear as though nothing had happened. Later, back in Yohsuke's room, YVS informed the boy that the card was worth $100,000,000 and that their contract could not be broken until his debt was repaid, much to Yohsuke's dismay.[9]
Sometime later, Yohsuke and several Rapts destroyed the Patch Village and intentionally left Alumi Numbirch as the sole survivor of the Patch Tribe. Asakura Hana, who was visiting at the time, attacked Yohsuke, so Yohsuke used a card to freeze time.[10] However, despite time still being frozen, Hana regained consciousness and killed Yohsuke. Dong Dehon then immobilized Hana and retrieved Yohsuke's body, while Shahon erased Hana's memories of the events.[11]
Red Crimson[]
Yohsuke and Dong Yonhon took Niaes Varge to assassinate Tao Jeanne in order to increase Niaes's strength. When Niaes hesitated to shoot Jeanne, Yohsuke threateningly questioned Niaes's resolve. Seeing this conflict within Niaes, Jeanne chose to have Shamash pass judgment on herself. Before Shamash could execute Jeanne, Yohsuke stopped time for everyone but himself and Yonhon. Yohsuke then took the gun from Niaes and fired it into Jeanne's head so that Jeanne would die to the gunshot once time resumed. Afterwards, Yohsuke had false memories placed into Niaes' mind to convince her that she was the one to kill Jeanne.[12] Jeanne's spirit was also made into Niaes' Guardian Ghost for the Flower of Maize.[13]
Flowers[]
From a nearby building, Yohsuke and YVS were spying on Asakura Hana and Yohane and watched the duel between Amidamaru and Oboro Daikyoh on the rooftop of Shinra Private Academy. Yohsuke praised Amidamaru's abilities and how he had managed to bring his previous master to the continent of Mū. However, YVS believed that Amidamaru was nothing but scum, to which Yohsuke replied that he was at least compared to YVS. Noting that Amidamaru was a model samurai and made his master look much worthier, Yohsuke asked YVS if it made him feel like taking one away from another.[14]
When Hana and Yohane decided to explore the new mall, Yohsuke purchased Zion Mall ahead of their visit, so that Asakura Luca and Ichihara Ryuji could ambush Hana. YVS did not want to go since he hates crowds and mixing in with commoners, to which Yohsuke affirmed that he had known him a long time and was already aware of this. Yohsuke told him not to forget that he was once one of those commoners before he had met YVS. When YVS reminded Yohsuke of his promise to eliminate the strong opponents in Japan before the Flower of Maize begins, Yohsuke assured YVS that he had a plan already in motion.[15]
After Hana summoned out the Daidarabotchi and crushed the shrine spirit, Alumi suppressed the Yami-Oni, so Yohsuke stepped in and stole Amidamaru, who had been petrified, and the shrine spirit, erasing everyone else's memories of his involvement. Yohsuke then transformed YVS into a flying mechanism and escaped from the mall. He questioned whether it was worth stealing Amidamaru due to Hana awakening the the powerful Yami-Oni and potentially regaining his erased memories.[16]
Yohsuke later advised the sons of Khafre Puljiz and Nakht Pitrah that Tao Men was incredibly dangerous, despite only being 7 years old, and is the strongest of Team Hao in terms of Furyoku. He revealed that Men was out of their league, but they might stand a chance now that Men was separated from his parents. As they left, he mentioned to YVS how reckless the men were and that they would probably die. YVS questioned why Yohsuke did not kill his enemies himself, to which Yohsuke responded that he still wished to make Hana an ally and use Hana's oni for their side.[17]
Anime/Manga Difference[]
Yohsuke originally debuted in Takei's Yahabe, which was both a manga one-shot and an anime OVA.
