Kororo's true form

Kororo is a Koropokkuru (known as Minutians in the English anime) a tiny spirit people and the spirit ally of Horohoro. She is a nature spirit and can therefore, unlike human ghosts take a solid form without being placed inside a medium. She can also control cold on her own. She is later revealed to be the spirit of a human girl named Kurobe Tamiko (黒部 民子) whom Horohoro fell in love with and reciprocated his feelings. But Horohoro's tribe made him avoid and ignore her, unintentionally leading to her death.[1]

People who meet her are often smitten by her cuteness. Her people the Koropokkuru are in danger of being wiped out because there are almost no more fuki fields left for them to inhabit.

History

Past

Kororo was once a human girl, born Kurobe Tamiko, whose family moved to Hokkaido because her father had a building project. She was nicknamed "Damuko" because her father's project involved constructing a dam that would destroy everything in the area around it, something that led her to be shunned. In her school she tried to befriend a boy named Usui Horokeu, even giving him the nickname of Horohoro, because the nickname "Usui-Kun" did not sound good and because "Horokeu" was hard to pronounce. At first Horohoro rejected her, but as she explained that she wanted to befriend him because they were alike as both of them were lonely and they became friends. However because of her father's dam, the Ainu Tribe Elder forbade Horohoro to see her. After her family demolished his favorite Fuki Field, he decided not to talk to her.[2]

Half a year later Tamiko asked Horohoro why he ignored her, even wanting to hold their promise of seeing the Fuki fields in the spring. But after following him into the mountains, she had an accident and eventually froze to death. There the Koropokkuru tried to guide her soul to the afterlife but she refused, wanting to know the reason why Horohoro ignored her. There, Gororo appeared saying that the only way to stay on this plane was to become a nature spirit like them, and protect the lands and its people, which Tamiko accepted.[1]

Invading the Plants

While Horohoro fought with Kalim of the Ten Patch Officiants, Kalim called Horohoro by his real name and trying to make him reveal his true self. Horohoro would in his anger reveal the events that happened between him and Damuko something that made Kororo take her true form as Kurobe Tamiko and reveal to Horohoro how she became a Koropokkuru. She also explained that Gororo told her that once becoming a Koropokkuru she would stay in that form until her master's "Ice Thawed" where she return to her true form once. As she turned back to her original form, Horohoro hugged and apologized to her.[1]
