Larch Dirac (ラーキ・ディラック Rāki Dirakku) is a fictional character in the Shaman King manga and anime series. A former member of the U.S. Delta Forces,[2] he enlisted in the X-Laws and competes in the Shaman Fight as part of Team "X-II".[3]
After the Shaman Fight, Larch worked for the American DEA and was assigned to Mexico.[4]
Appearance[]
Larch is a tall, well-built, muscular man with a short blonde military crew cut, although a few bangs still hang loosely in the front and he has a short five o'clock beard. For unknown reasons, Larch is constantly seen with a bandage right below his left eye.
He wears a standard X-Laws uniform with a block-shaped shoulder guard.
His street clothes consist of a white undershirt, dark blue pants, and boots. Like the rest of X-II, he is revealed to still carry around his old military uniform, that he put on when he and the rest of X-II decided to target Asakura Hao one last time.
Personality[]
Like many of the X-Laws, Larch is an extremist believer that the end justifies the means.
Learning that Marco had lied about Jeanne's origins, Larch, along with the rest of his team lost their faith in Marco as a captain.
Abilities and Powers[]
Spirit[]
- See More: Uriel
His Guardian Ghost is a car-based tsukumogami empowered by a piece of the archangel Uriel. The media for its Over Souls are rockets for Larch's bazooka,[5] and the original vehicle was a blue and orange Ford GT40.[6] Like all the other archangels, Uriel has the ability to shatter souls.[7]
History[]
Past[]
Larch was born on October 13, 1971 in Los Angeles, United States.[1] He was once a member of the Delta Forces, who participated in operation "Restore Hope" in the year 1993.
Shaman Fight in Tokyo[]
Not much is known about his performance during the preliminary round, but Larch did win two matches and advanced to the main competition. The X-Laws and the other qualifying competitors attended the opening ceremony at Mimata Hall.[8]
Traveling Through America[]
A month later, the X-Laws and the other competitors gathered at Yokocha Base and were flown to America in the Patch Jumbo. The shamans were tasked with locating and reaching the Patch Village within three months. While still tens of thousands of feet in the air, the jumbo jet was revealed to be an Over Soul shortly before it was dematerialized, dropping all of its passengers.[9]
After arriving at Mesa Verdede, Larch and the other X-Laws watched as Marco Lasso killed Boris Tepes Dracula with his Archangel, Michael.[10] As the X-Laws and Asakura Yoh's group traveled deeper into the mesa, Marco introduced the members of his group. When Bill Burton ambushed the X-Laws, they defeated him by overwhelming him with their Archangels; however, Yoh refused to let them kill Bill.[11] After Marco briefly clashed with Yoh, the X-Laws respected Yoh's bravery and so left Bill alive as they continued ahead to the Patch Village.[12]
After reaching the Village, Lyserg Diethel met up with the X-Laws, and Marco offered to let him join them.[13]
Shaman Fights Second Round[]
Two months later, the X-Laws were brought to the island Tokyo, where the tournament would take place.[14] Larch and the others watched as Team "X-I" took on Team "Niles". When Lyserg hesitated to kill Anatel Pokki, Jeanne summoned Shamash to judge and execute Anatel and his teammates, all the while the X-Laws (except Lyserg) cheered for her.[15]
Later that night, the X-Laws retired to their ship, the Ark-X. Lyserg secretly met with Yoh on the beach, but they were interrupted and surrounded by the rest of the X-Laws. However, Jeanne stopped them and offered Yoh a place in the X-Laws. Yoh refused, which led to a brief clash with Marco, but Yoh was allowed to leave.[16]
The next day, Larch watched as Team "X-III" fought Team "Hoshi-Gumi". Meene Montgomery, Cebin Mendel, and Chris Venstar sacrificed themselves to test the capabilities of Hao's Spirit of Fire. Larch was stunned when Hao gave away the secret of the Over Soul's medium himself.[17] The X-Laws then watched in shock as Hao had the Spirit of Fire consume the souls of Team "X-III".[18]
Later that day, the other X-Laws stood guard while Jeanne revived Tao Ren. Larch, John Denbat, and Porf Griffith summoned their Archangels to stop Bason's interference after Marco suggested executing Ren, but Jeanne refused to break her agreement with Yoh. After being revived, Ren tested his new strength by stabbing the Archangels. Despite Ren's insult to Jeanne, the X-Laws stood down and let him leave since Ren's revival also meant Yoh's withdrawal.[19]
Yoh later returned to the Ark-X in order to fight them for permission to participate in the Shaman Fight again. Marco and Team "X-II" attacked Yoh, but Yoh easily dodged all of their attacks as he had used Soul Integration with Amidamaru. After Yoh switched to his O.S. "Spirit of Sword", the Archangels managed to pin down Yoh, but before Michael could deal the final blow, Yoh sliced through the Archangel with a second Over Soul, revealing that this first was a trick by Imari and Shigaraki. Larch, John, and Porf tried to stop Yoh's advance but he used Shamanic Oracle to slip between their attacks. When Luchist Lasso interrupted Marco and Yoh's fight, John ignored Marco's warning and lashed out with Raphael, which Luchist's Lucifer destroyed in an instant, causing John to lose consciousness. Larch and Porf attacked with Uriel and Sariel, but they were similarly defeated and knocked out.[20]
The next morning, Larch, John, and Porf joined Yoh's group for a meal but sat to the side because they were upset with Marco for having deceived them about Jeanne. Although Marco blamed himself, Jeanne insisted that the responsibility was hers and that the X-Laws should work together to reform, which inspired Larch and the others to cheer for her. Their cheering was interrupted by Kyōyama Anna's Zenki and Goki, which smashed the table. Yoh then laid out his plan for defeating Hao after Hao wins the Shaman Fight.[21]
Larch being burned by Hao
Later that day, the X-Laws watched Team "The Ren"'s match against Team "Myooh",[22] but Larch, John, and Porf left before it finished.[23] The mission was planned so that Larch and John would take guard posts, while Porf would target Hao from a small distance with his sniper rifle. After some small chat about whether or not they should go through with the mission, Porf reported that he was in position, but when he had Hao's head in his target, he lost focus due to seeing Hao crying. Hao then killed Porf, who in his final words urged John and Larch to run from the monster. Larch heeded the warning and fled, but Hao caught and incinerated him as well.[2]
Invading the Plants[]
When Hao created a Black Hole within the Great Spirit, the X-Laws appeared in their "Supercars" to protect the train of souls.[24] After the battle, Hao resurrected everyone who had died during the Shaman Fight.
Day After Maize[]
After being revived, Larch and the rest of the X-Laws (except Marco) were inspired to reunite at Mont Saint-Michel. They then reformed into a charity organization, with large support from the Leidi Group.[4] The new X-Laws visited war-torn places around the world, bringing aid and exorcising evil spirits.[25]
In 2008, they all gathered together and celebrated the wedding of Jeanne and Ren.[26]
