The Lasso Family (ラッソ家, Rasso-ke) is a fictional family in the Shaman King manga and anime series.

About

Dating back to medieval times, the Lasso Family amassed its vast wealth through the sale and manufacture of weapons. In modern times, they have expanded their business to include securities trading. The Lasso Family view themselves as the shepherds of humanity, using fear and conflict to control humanity, as well as to drive the world's demand and reliance on the research, development, and market of weapons, in accordance with Fra YVS' capitalist agenda. Alongside the secret society Daremoine, they have a long history of manipulating wars by selling weapons to both sides of a conflict, as well as weapons that were forbidden by treaties.

Despite their allegiance to YVS, the Lasso Family has deep ties with the Christian Church, with some members even joining the priesthood and becoming inquisitors. The Lasso Family has used its inquisitors to carry out assassinations around the world, eliminating those perceived as threats to the family and the Church. They also used orphanages under their control to mold children into new generations of agents for the family.

In 2014, Luchist Lasso managed to temporarily cripple the family and its ventures by detonating explosives in their main residence and multiple weapons factories and depots.

Defectors

The first member of the family to defect was Luke Lasso, who broke away during World War II. In the pursuit of justice, he created the organization "Heaven's Gate" and worked to counteract the machinations of his family.

Luchist Lasso, Luke's grandson, secretly rejected the family's mission and later sought to join Asakura Hao, whom the family recognized as an enemy; however, Hao initially rejected Luchist's attempt. While running an orphanage for the family, Luchist discovered the boy Marco, who had great shamanic potential but a kind heart. Luchist decided not to raise Marco with the family's views on humanity, allowing the boy to pursue his own dreams. After Hao burned down the orphanage, Luchist used it as an excuse to break away from the Lasso Family and to continue pursuing Hao, forming the X-Laws with Marco. Luchist ultimately joined Hao's followers, which drove a wedge between him and Marco.

For the Flower of Maize, Marco chose to be reborn as an angel and formed Team Marcos in opposition to the Lasso Family and Team YVS.

Abilities and Powers

Through their generations of weapon development, the Lasso Family has achieved great technological advancements. For example, they have set up a satellite surveillance system that can locate and track just about anyone in the world.

They have also cultivated shamanic power and knowledge, such as divination techniques.

Spirits

The family has a history of using angels as Guardian Ghosts and firearms as spiritual media. In particular, Lucifer has been passed down within the family, and a piece of the angel was used to create a car-based one. Luchist Lasso also ventured into Big Heaven to attain pieces of other angels in order to create the other Mobile Angels.

Spimea has a collection of powerful devils, including Moloch and Lilith.

Trivia

• While showing the drafts for the Lasso Family members, Hiroyuki Takei revealed that all members of the Lasso Family wore large hats on their heads.
