The episodes of the Shaman King anime series are based on the manga of the same name written by Hiroyuki Takei. They were directed by Seiji Mizushima (水島 精二, Mizushima Seiji) and produced by Xebec.
The episodes were aired between July 4, 2001, and September 25, 2002, on TV Tokyo in Japan and spanned sixty-four episodes. 4Kids Entertainment obtained the rights to the Shaman King anime in North America; it premiered on 4Kids network Foxbox on August 30, 2003. The final episode aired on September 3, 2005.
Five musical themes were used throughout the series. The opening themes are "Over Soul" from episodes one to thirty-four, and "Northern lights" onwards towards the end; both were sung by Megumi Hayashibara. The three ending themes are "Trust you" from episodes one to thirty-four, "Omokage" from episodes thirty five to sixty-three, and "Tamashii Kasanete" for the final episode. "Trust You" and "Omokage" was performed by Megumi Hayashibara while "Tamashii Kasanete" was sung by Yūko Satō. Several CDs that contain the theme music and other tracks have been released by King records.
