Minder (ミンダー Mindā) is a fictional character in the Shaman King manga and anime series. He participated in the Shaman Fight of AD 2000 as a member of Team "Haiti 800", with his friend Datura and their teacher Chicory.[1]
Appearance[]
Personality[]
Minder is in love with Datura, his childhood friend, so he participates in the Shaman Fight out of concern for her devotion to her ideals.[1]
Abilities and Powers[]
Minder's shamanic abilities awoke after a farming accident, and he was trained in voodoo by Chicory. He also learned traditional African martial arts from his father.[1]
Spirits[]
Their team's Guardian Ghosts are Zombie Soldiers, and they use Over Souls to animate the corpses.[2][3]
History[]
Past[]
Minder was the son of a tenant farmer who worked on the farm run by Datura's father. As a child, he suffered an accident with some farming machinery, and this experience awoke his shamanic abilities. Chicory, who also worked on the farm, taught Minder and Datura the practices of voodoo.[1]
Shaman Fight in Tokyo[]
Not much is known about his performance during the preliminary round, but Minder did win two matches and advanced to the main competition. Minder and the other qualifying competitors attended the opening ceremony at Mimata Hall.[4]
Traveling through America[]
A month later, Minder and the other competitors gathered at Yokocha Base and were flown to America in the Patch Jumbo. The shamans were tasked with locating and reaching the Patch Village within three months. While still tens of thousands of feet in the air, the jumbo jet was revealed to be an Over Soul shortly before it was dematerialized, dropping all of its passengers.[5]
Minder, Datura, and Chicory successfully reached the village and formed Team "Haiti 800" for the tournament.
Shaman Fight Second Round[]
Months later, the competing shamans were transported to the island Tokyo. For their first match, Team "Haiti 800" was pitted against Gandhara's Team "Nyorai".[6] During the match, Sati Saigan easily pacified the Zombie Soldiers, turning the corpses to dust and sending their spirits to the afterlife.[2] Minder and Datura were saddened by the defeat, and Chicory comforted his students.[7]
Anime/Manga Difference[]
Like the rest of his team, he does not appear in the 2001 anime series.
Trivia[]
- He is named after mint, a family of plants that have been used in various cuisines and traditional medicines.
