History[]

Flowers[]

Hitoshi chases after and stops Alumi Numbirch for driving a motorcycle while underage. She explains that she is an itako and that Hans Meyer is actually the own driving, and the sight of the ghost stuns Hitoshi. He warns her about driving without a license and then tells her where to find Oume Kaizou's house, before watching her drive off.

Later, at the police station, Hitoshi treats Alumi to ramen while talking with her about Kaizou and his safe.[1] Hitoshi tries to get her contact information, but Alumi changes the subject to his new ability to see ghosts. Hitoshi researches shamans when she steps outside. However, she comes back into use the restroom and questions him about his father, whose picture is enshrined in the police station. Hitoshi explains that his father was a police officer and a judo expert who died while investigating Kaizou, so Hitoshi warns Alumi against messing with Kaizou. He offers to protect her, but she refuses his help. Three of Kaizou's thugs show up at the station, frightening Hitoshi. Alumi channels Banji's spirit and defeats all three men, and Hitoshi recognizes his father's techniques.[3]

Banji berates Hitoshi

Hitoshi talks with his father, through Alumi.

Hitoshi tries to hug his father but is thrown to the floor. Banji chastises Hitoshi for not being able to protect Alumi and then confirms Hitoshi's suspicions that Kaizou was involved in his death. After detailing some of Kaizou's history and shady dealings, Banji compliments Hitoshi's decision to become an officer, too, and to investigate the safe. Afterward, Hitoshi questions why a ghost could not peer into the safe, and Alumi explains the limitations of ghosts, as well as the strong feelings surrounding the safe. Noticing how late it is, Hitoshi asks where she is staying the night, to which she replies that she is camping outside but requests to use his bath first.[4]

The next morning, Hitoshi and Inspector Hebishima Yumeji investigate the mysterious deaths of Kaizou's three thugs. Yumeji questions Hitoshi if anything else out of the ordinary had happened, which Hitoshi denies, covering for Alumi. He then happens to pass by her encampment and is surprised to see the thugs' ghosts there. After he informs her about the laws regarding camping, they ride back to the station, and along the way, the ghosts bother Hitoshi but reveal that they were killed by Kaizou's oni.[5] They stop at the regional archives and discover that Kaizou and Sakurai Sakutaro were friends and lived in the village until World War II. Alumi tells Hitoshi that she needs to steal the safe's contents so Sakutaro will become fiancé's Guardian Ghost. However, Hitoshi is more shocked over her being engaged and carrying around a sword. He warns her again about going to Kaizou's alone, but she assures him that she wants to accomplish this herself.

Their conversation is interrupted by Kaizou throwing his car at the archives. Alumi's Over Souls help them escape safely.[6] Hitoshi is confused by the ship forming around Kaizou, so Alumi explains Over Souls to him. She then flies up into the air and then drops Hitoshi, planning to catch him after she finishes fighting Kaizou. The explosions also help keep him aloft.[7] When Alumi prepares to shoot Kaizou, Hitoshi pulls out his own gun and insists on arresting Kaizou himself. This draws the old man's attention, and Alumi has to summon Zenki and Goki to grab Hitoshi and move him to safety. While the shikigami help fight Kaizou, Hans tells Hitoshi about Furyoku and the burden Alumi carries in preparing for the Flower of Maize. Hitoshi worries over Alumi after she runs low on Furyoku and is knocked down; however, Hana then arrives to protect her.[8] Hitoshi is perplexed by Hana's actions and abilities until Hana explains that he is ghost. Alumi then integrates Hana and swiftly defeats Kaizou, destroying the oni as well.[9] Afterward, at Alumi and Hana's request, Hitoshi calls an ambulance for Kaizou.

Yumeji attacks Hitoshi

Yumeji removes Hitoshi's eye.

Later, back at the police station, Hitoshi is filling out incident reports but is annoyed by Hans and Hana's bickering. Banji comforts his son and compliments him on his courageous display.[10] Hitoshi freaks out when he discovers that Alumi has snuck out. Hana assures him that she can handle herself,[11] but Hitoshi still bikes out to Kaizou's house. He witnesses Yumeji's transformation into a Rapt and confuses it for a kappa Over Soul. While Alumi is distracted, Yumeji punches her in the stomach and then attacks Hitoshi, planning to eat him. After Alumi shoots Yumeji in the head, he rips out Hitoshi's eye and then slings the man into her. He eats the eye to heal his injury and then barges into the house.[2]

As Kaizou returns to the house, Misaki discovers Hitoshi's injured body.[12] When Hitoshi wakes up, he warns Misaki to run because of Kaizou and Hana's crazy battle over the lake.[13] When Kaizou's Over Soul changes further, Alumi echoes Hitoshi's warning to Misaki, but shortly after, Hana successfully defeats Kaizou and his oni.[14] Afterward, Hitoshi is taken to a hospital for his injury.[15]

Hitoshi later visits Kaizou who is also recovering in the hospital.[16]
