The Naka-Oni (中鬼) is a fictional creature in the Shaman King manga and anime series. It is an oni that can be summoned by Kyōyama Anna and her son Asakura Hana.
About[]
The first Naka-Onis seen were unwittingly created by Kyōyama Anna's uncontrollable Reishi power. It appeared when Kyōyama Anna and Asakura Yoh went to a temple on new years day. When the prayers, hopes, and worries exceeded 1080, something that easily happened during that time and place, Anna's Reishi powers went out of control and created the Naka-Oni. While fighting with Matamune, it began gathering the surrounding oni in the area. The oni began devouring each other and in the end, the Naka-Oni evolved into Oh-Oni.[1]
The second one seen was summoned by Asakura Hana, due to a power given to him by Asakura Hao, where in a state of near death, Hana goes into a trance and summons various sizes of onis to defend himself. Unlike his mother who summoned one without realizing it, Hana actively summons the larger oni by chanting "Demons Out". When Ichihara Ryuji almost killed Asakura Hana by fracturing his skull, Hana began summoning oni at random to attack Ryuji and Asakura Luca. As Luca destroyed all the onis he summoned, Hana began chanting and summoned bigger onis even a single Naka-Oni though it to was destroyed by Luca's Over Soul. In response, Hana gathered the regenerating remains of his onis to create a Dark-Oni that was finally able to defeat Luca.[2]

Description: The condensed form of O.S. "Naka-Oni Hana", this armor-type Over Soul has increased attack and defense; however, the negative effect on Hana's emotions is also increased. It can shatter the anti-oni blade of O.S. "Ogre Hunter" and overcome the Furyoku absorption of the cloak.[5]
Anime/Manga Difference[]
Since the 2001 anime series did not adapt the Osorezan Revoir story, Naka-Onis did not appear in that series.
Trivia[]
- The appearance of O.S. "Naka-Oni Hana" resembles the design of Vice's Icon forms from Takei's other series, Ultimo.
- Similarly, the appearance of O.S. "Oni Hana" resembles a solid, downsized version of Daidarabotchi.
