Flower of Maize[]
After Dong Keihon calls to cancel the Dong siblings' reservation at the inn,[4] Yakumo happens to encounter Team Hao who are looking for a place to stay. He invites them to stay at his inn and drives them there. While they are taking baths, Yakumo heads back down the mountain to pick up Asakura Luca;[2] however, she refuses, insisting on staying and talking with her father. Yakumo also calls Funbari Onsen to inform them of the arrangements. When he returns to the inn, he prepares dinner[5] and is hurt by their harsh criticisms of the meal, although he is touched by Asakura Yohane's appreciation. After dinner, Yakumo prepares the rooms for them.[6]
Later that night, Yakumo confronts Asakura Hana when the boy sneaks out of his room. Realizing that Yakumo is behind their missing shamanic abilities but uncertain whose side he is on, Hana attacks the innkeeper, but Yakumo easily blocks the attacks and throws Hana around with his Guardian Ghost, Asura. Yakumo insists that he is an ally to both sides and warns Hana that being so quick to perceive someone as an enemy can echo back at him.[1] As Hana falls into the water, Yakumo suggests that team leader should figure out what he wants for the miracle reward.[7]
While watching Hana and Alumi, Yakumo discusses with Asura about his past with Gandhara and Sati, as well as how Fra YVS corrupted Mr. B's teachings. Yakumo then turns his attention to the rest of Team Hao.[8] Yakumo fuses with Asura and sneaks up on Tao Men.[9] When the boy screams and faints out of fear, Yakumo determines that Men is unfit to participate in the Flower of Maize. Ibuki Gakko and Yohane try to stop Yakumo, but they are still unable to use their furyoku due to Yakumo's furyoku-nullification. Yakumo carefully places Men into a compartment in his leg before continuing to attack Gakko and Yohane. Yakumo chases them but makes sure that his attacks miss. Gakko and Yohane run to the shuttle bus and drive it into Yakumo, who is sent flying backwards. As they try to flee in the bus, Yakumo slices away at the ground around the bus, causing it to fall down the cliff; however, Yohane summons a Cloud copy of Asakura Hao and guides the bus to land safely, which surprises Yakumo. He is then surprised again when another Cloud copy of Hao—this time from Hao's third life—addresses Yakumo, and Gakko admits that he created that one and that he is also a descendant of Hao. As Yakumo prepares to attack Gakko and Yohane again, Men climbs out of the compartment and uses a Cloud Shamash to crack Yakumo's New Trance. As Yakumo falls from the sky, Men fuses with Shamash, catches Yakumo, and lays him on the ground.[10]
The next morning, Yakumo has recovered and serves everyone breakfast, including Hana who has returned and the Dong siblings who accompanied Hana back. The next day, however, Yakumo's body is discovered in a pond at the inn; his ghost, along with Asura, was stolen by someone.[11]
