New Trance (ニュートランス, Nyū Toransu), or simply NT, is an advanced shamanic technique. Considered the final form of a shaman, it involves the shaman fusing with their Guardian Ghost.

The ability is required for competing in the Flower of Maize.

About

When the shaman and their Guardian Ghost are deeply connected, they can use this connection to access a higher dimension where the shaman's soul can fuse together with their Guardian Ghost. This fusion is then incarnated in a new body in the physical world. Although this physical transformation can be reverted at will, the spiritual contract cannot be broken until the shaman's body is destroyed.

Unlike an Over Soul, a New Trance does not utilize furyoku and involves a physical manifestation, so the transformation can be seen by non-shamans and those who have add their sixth sense suppressed.

Artificial New Trance

Non-shamans are normally unable to perform New Trances. Dong Suhon developed and constructed a series of robots, called "Karakuri Doji", that can utilize dimensional arts and achieve Artificial New Trances (人工ニュートランス, Jinkō Nyū Toransu).

Trivia

• The term "New Trance" first appeared in the Day After Maize epilogue.
• Hiroyuki Takei was inspired to create the new transformation because he wanted characters to fight with their own bodies in order to learn and grow from the experiences and pain, as well as to follow the theme of finding god within oneself. Additionally, it allowed Takei to condense the characters to more manageable sizes.
