Osorezan Revoir (Mt. Osore Le Voile) (恐山ル・ヴォワール Osorezan Ru Vowāru) is a prequel story arc before the events of the Shaman King manga series. The plot refers to the encounter of Kyōyama Anna and Asakura Yoh and his guardian spirit, Matamune, on Mount Osore, Aomori.
The arc was compiled in Volumes 19 and 20 in the JUMP tankobons (15 and 16 in the Kanzenban versions[1]) and was adapted in the 2021 anime series.
Story[]
A 10-year-old Asakura Yoh was sent to Aomori with his first spirit partner, the Nekomata spirit Matamune, to meet his potential wife, Kyōyama Anna at his grandmother Kino's house. Upon arrival, Yoh meets Anna, who only views him with a cold demeanor. Strangely since then, the two were attacked by Oni with only Yoh and Matamune to protect Anna. It was revealed that the Oni were an unconscious manifestation by Anna's spiritual powers as Yoh slowly figured it out. However, an extremely powerful Oh-Oni was formed and forced Matamune to sacrifice his physical form as using the last of his powers as Yoh's first Over Soul. With Matamune's sacrifice and Anna's heart opening up to Yoh, the Oh-Oni is defeated.
