Oyamada Mansumi (小山田萬純 Oyamada Mansumi) is a fictional character in the Shaman King manga and anime series. He is the president of the Oyamada Company and the husband of Oyamada Keiko and father of Manta and Mannoko.

After the Shaman Fight, Mansumi operates under the alias "Master Mo" and aligns himself with Team YVS and Daremoine.[3][4]

Appearance[]

Mansumi is a short, old man with gray hair and a handlebar moustache.

Mansumi can take on the appearance of a tall man who resembles a humanoid Chinese dragon. In this form, he has long shaggy hair, a pair of horns, a thick tail, and a long snout with a long tendril-like moustache. He wears a light-colored cloak with a dark fur collar, as well as a pair of boots.

Personality[]

He is a strict father who believes that parents must protect their children at any cost. He is not above hitting his own son when he talks back to him, and is also prepared to force him to back come back to America. But he still has high expectations of him and wants his son Manta to inherit his company.[5] He is however a bit of a romanticist and wishes to expand his company into outer space.

Abilities and Powers[]

As a member of the Dragon Tribe, Mansumi can transform into a taller, draconic form through dimensional arts.[3]

Mansumi has an unnamed Guardian Ghost with which he can perform a New Trance, "Iryujin" (イ龍神 Iryūjin), transforming himself into a giant Chinese dragon.[6]

History[]

Shaman Fights in Tokyo[]

Midori drives Mansumi to the hospital where his son Manta is recovering. When Mansumi asks if his son has learned his lesson, Midori tells him that Manta refuses to transfer schools because the boy is too focused on his best friend, Asakura Yoh. Upon realizing this he plans to take him to America, as his son will inherit his business. While visiting Manta, Mansumi informs him about Midori's investigation into Yoh's background much to the shock of his son before he slaps him. Mansumi scolds his son about Yoh being a bad influence before being informed by Midori that he has a meeting in Moscow. He soon leaves the room but not before telling Manta to not see Yoh again and that he also finished the paperwork for Manta to go to America where he would study at an American University.[5]

Shaman Fight Second Round[]

Mansumi and Midori coordinate the defeat of Hao's followers.

Eventually, Mansumi brings a large fleet of ships to the island Tokyo, where the Shaman Fight tournament is taking place.[7] After Hao's followers were killed off, Midori then contacts Mansumi to tell him that they were all annihilated and the Shaman Fight will end soon, while Mansumi thinks to himself that the Great Spirit is close.[8]

Invading the Plants[]

Midori later gives Mansumi information on the continent of , saying it is a "world class discovery". However, Mansumi informs him that they did not come here to make a discovery or seek the legend but to seek the wisdom of the Great Spirit. In addition, he also says that he already arranged necessary preparations to retaliate Hao's attack and hired Hans Reiheit and Amano Teruko to be his personal guards.[9] Manta eventually finds out that Midori has been contacting his father about the Shaman Fights and of the Great Spirit. In addition, Anna destroys Manta's phone, revealing that Mansumi ordered Midori to put a bug on it to spy and using Manta to gather information to track down the shamans.[10]

The next day, Mansumi and his sheep fleet prepare to attack the island, eventually Hao single-handedly destroys nearly all the ships except the one Mansumi is on board. Commander Sato questions Mansumi on who Hao is to which Mansumi responds that he can read minds and that he should not lost his cool just until Hao shows up finding Mansumi.[11] Hao also spared Mansumi due to a moment of weakness, as he realized he was facing people who are parents as Usui Lycan was also captured and made into a hostage.[12]

Following his defeat, Mansumi is captured and held hostage by Anna, who agrees to let him talk to Manta in private.[13]

Mansumi attends a meeting of Daremoine in an underground facility of the Lasso Family.[4]

Flowers[]

Mansumi travels to Kyoto, Japan and attends the meeting of Daremoine and Team YVS in Kyoto Tower.[14] He watches silently as Sati Saigan and Dainichi Nyorai fight against and lose to the Four Holy Beasts. However, he reacts in shock when Tetts bursts into the room and reports that Mr. Green's plan has failed to stop Asakura Hana.[15][16] As Peyote Diaz and Yun Namukada's New Trance fight shakes Kyoto like an earthquake, Mansumi worries that it will destroy the tower before the ritual can be completed, so he tasks the Dong Siblings with bringing an end to the fight, while he goes to question Midori about what has happened. However, Hana shouts for everyone's attention.[17]

Anime/Manga Difference[]

Mansumi does not appear in the 2001 anime series.

Trivia[]

  • Mansumi's age and birthday have changed throughout the series. He is introduced as 55 years old.[5] His Character File lists his age as 53 years old and his birthday as September 22, 1947.[2] The Shaman King Kazenban Final Official Guide Book Mentalite and the Shaman King Character Book amended his birthday to January 1, 1955, making him 46 years old in January 2001 instead of 53 years old.[1]
