Raphael (ラファエル Rafaeru) is a fictional character in the Shaman King manga and anime series. He is an angel and a piece of him was used to create the Archangel that serves as John Denbat's Guardian Ghost.[2]
About[]
Raphael is an angel who is said to govern healing and protect the East.[3] According to John Denbat, Raphael is a "god of heat" (熱の神 netsu no kami).[4] Like the other Archangels, Raphael possesses the ability to shatter other spirits with his attacks.[5]
Mobile Angel[]
Luchist Lasso ventured into the Big Heaven,[6] took a piece of Raphael, and placed it in a green Aston Martin DB4 that was important to John Denbat.[7] Because of this origin, its Over Soul can manifest as an Aston Martin DB4 and be driven like a car.[8] While not a real angel, its reiryoku is almost at Kami Class.[9]
John's main media for his Over Souls are grenades for a grenade launcher,[2] known as Sword No-002 "Denbat Grenade" (デンバットグレネード Denbatto Gurenēdo).[10]

Description: In its archangel form, it has a slim body with swords attached to its forearms.[2] Raphael specializes in close combat and utilizes John's fencing training to defeat opponents with quick strikes of its swords.[3] For more distant targets, it can swing the swords fast enough to create flying slashes.[11] If the shamans' minds focus more on the devices than their religious pieties in angels when summoning the spirits, the colorations of the mechanical archangels may alter.[7]
Sometime after the Shaman Fight, Raphael begins wielding a sword resembling Michael's.[12][6]

- Archangels Fire (アークエンジェルズ
FIRE Ākuenjeruzu Faia, 4Kids: "Ray of Light"): This attack involves John and the other X-Laws lining up and taking aim with their weapons and then simultaneously launching all of their Archangels at the same target. By using all seven Archangels, this attack becomes strong enough to cripple and even send almost any person into a near-death state. This attack seems to use a minimal amount of furyoku and it happens so fast that barely anyone sees it before it is over.[2]

Description: When confronting Asakura Hao for one last time, John knows that just recklessly attacking him with their Archangels or even launching a 1000-ton nuclear bomb on him, would not do anything. Therefore, he uses his connections with the British government to gain access to a military defense satellite that is also a laser. It releases a multi-terawatt laser that can pierce any man-made material;[4] however, Hao's O.S. "Spirit of Fire: Black Fowl" withstood the blast and inadvertently protected John, too.[13]

- SDI stands for Strategic Defense Initiative, which was a US Department of Defense program for researching and developing missile defense systems during the Cold War. One such system, called Project Excalibur, proposed using x-ray lasers mounted on satellites.
