Shaft (シャフト Shafuto) is a gang led by Chocolove McDonnell before the start of the series.

The gang consists of people that lost everything in their life.

Past[]
Chocolove's parents were murdered by thieves on Christmas Eve and he were sent to an orphanage. After he grows up, he joined the gang called Shaft and eventually became their leader. After killing a man on Christmas Eve with his gang, Chocolove decides to go for a walk alone on the streets. The gang members discover Chocolove was hanging out with an old man named Orona. Lulu tries to snap Chocolove back to his senses by killing Orona after he makes a speech about saving the world with the wind of laughter. Instead of getting angry at his gang, Chocolove just laughs and performs the O.S. Black Jaguar.
Shaman Fights in Tokyo[]
While waiting for the opening ceremony to begin, Shaft watch the match between Asakura Yoh and Tao Ren.[1]
Shaman Fight Second Round[]
Chocolove participates in the Shaman Fight while his fellow members support him during his match against Team "Tsuki-Gumi".[2]
One night, Chocolove decides to see his friends from Shaft and discovers all of them were killed. Their killers were Redseb and Seyrarm Muntzer who used Golem to avenge the death of their late father, Camel Muntzer.[3] They succeed in killing Chocolove in the process, but he gets revived after training in Hell.

All the gang members of Shaft appear on the train supporting Chocolove.[4]

Anime/Manga Difference[]
Chocolove's past was changed in the 2001 anime series and the gang was removed. In the English version of the manga series, all of the members' lips are edited to avoid blackface stereotype.
Trivia[]
- The group name Shaft is a reference to the movie Shaft.
- Along with the names of Chocolove and Orona, every member's name are derived from common oral medicine and quasi-drug in Japan; Chocola BB for Chocolove, Oronamin C for Orona, Bufferin for "Buffalo" Lynn, Benza Ace for Ben the Ace, Lulu for Lulu, for EVE for Ibu.
