Tamurazaki Midori (田村崎緑 , 4Kids: Jerry) is a fictional character in the Shaman King manga and anime series. An employee of the Oyamada Company, he is Oyamada Mansumi's secretary.[4]
Under the alias "Mr. Green", Midori works as an aide to Master Mo for Team YVS and Daremoine.[1]
Appearance[]
Midori wears glasses and a formal black suit with a white shirt and a necktie.
Personality[]
Midori is very loyal to Oyamada Mansumi and the Oyamada Company and willing to do anything that the company asks, even committing illegal activities.[5] He also stayed with Mansumi's son, Manta, to gather information on shamans for his employer.[6]
Although he recognizes and witnesses the abilities of shamans, he does not hold a deep faith in any particular religion or creed.[7]
Abilities and Powers[]
Midori possesses no innate shamanic abilities and thus cannot see spirits.[1] He prefers to use modern weapons, like guns;[7] he also has had a Golem constructed for himself, calling it the Green Golem, but it has not been completed yet.[2]
History[]
Shaman Fights in Tokyo[]
Midori drives Oyamada Mansumi to the hospital where Manta is recovering. When Mansumi asks if his son has learned his lesson, Midori tells him that Manta refuses to transfer schools because the boy is too focused on his best friend, Asakura Yoh, as well as informing Mansumi about the investigation into Yoh's background. While visiting Manta, Midori apologizes to Manta for the investigation and then informs Mansumi that he has a meeting in Moscow.[4]
Traveling to America[]
In a company helicopter, Midori flies Manta, Kyōyama Anna, and Tamamura Tamao to Mesa Verdede in America, where they are met by Asakura Hao.[8] Later, Midori does not accompany Manta to the Patch Village.[9]
Shaman Fight Second Round[]
In order to prevent Hao's followers from attacking the fleet of ships, Midori informs Peyote Diaz about Hao's ability to read minds and then coordinates with him to take down the others.[7] When Peyote begins to attack his teammates, Midori shoots Mohamed Tabarsi in the face with a pistol.[10] Kanna Bismarch attempts to use the Forbidden Killing Curse on Midori, but it does not kill him because he does not hold a deep religious belief. He shoots down the girls of Team "Hana-Gumi" with an M134 Vulcan and watches as Peyote kills the others and himself. Midori then contacts Mansumi to tell him that they were all annihilated and the Shaman Fight will end soon.[7] For the rest of the Shaman Fight, he watches the matches and observes Yoh through his van.[11]
Invading the Plants[]
Midori later gives Mansumi information on the continent of Mū, saying it is a "world class discovery". However, Mansumi informs him that they did not come here to make a discovery or seek the legend but to seek the wisdom of the Great Spirit.[12] Manta later finds out that Midori has been contacting his father about the Shaman Fights and of the Great Spirit. In addition, Anna destroys Manta's phone, revealing that Midori put a bug on it to spy and gather information to track down the shamans.[6]
After Hao's attack on the ships and Mansumi is captured by Anna, Midori manages to disappear.[13]
Anime/Manga Difference[]
In the 2001 anime series, Midori is only seen once when he is taking Manta to America. In the English version of the 2001 anime series, he is named Jerry and he is Manta's uncle.
His role in the 2021 anime series more closely follows the events of the manga.
Trivia[]
- In the character popularity polls, Midori ranked #26 in the first and #78 (along with others) in the second.
