Tao Men (道黽, "Dào Mǐn") is fictional character in the manga series of Shaman King and its sequel Shaman King Flowers. Men is the son of Tao Ren and Iron Maiden Jeanne. and the main heir to the Tao Family.
As an infant, Tao Men greatly resembles his father, even sporting the same tongari hairstyle. However, he has silver hair and red eyes, traits, which he have inherited from his mother.
As a teenager, being a primary school student, Men wears the same school outfit as his father, complete with a golden blazer, a white shirt, and shorts, albeit with a ribbon-bow instead of a tie. He retains the tongari hairstyle, but his hair is now somewhat wavier, another trait from his mother, Jeanne.
In his debut, Men shows no distinct personality traits. However, he does manage to burp the word "Baka" to Horohoro, either by chance or by intent.
As he gets older Tao Men is every bit as impulsive, arrogant, and brash like his father. As he is being raised to be the heir of the Tao Family, he also looks down on people he views being below him. His superior attitude and manner of speaking though are reminiscent of his mother, acting serene when not in battle or being agitated. Alumi Niumbirch describes Men as extremely stubborn and obstinate but at the same time he has a tender heart. Despite his bloodlust in battle, Men adheres to an iron-clad rule taught by his parents not to kill anyone.
Before the death of his mother, Men appeared mored cheerful and Ren even noted he had a tendency to cause mischief.
Abilities and PowersEdit
As the child of Ren and Jeanne, Men possesses exceptional talent as a Shaman and was already able to perform an Over Soul at the age of seven. Because of his ability to use an Ove Soul and his mastery of both of his parents spirits at such an early age, Alumi calls him a thoroughbred shaman. YVS also said that Men possesses the strongest Furyoku level on Team Hao.
Men have inherited his father and mother's Guardian ghosts, Bason and Shamash, respectively. For the Over Soul with Bason, he uses a legendary guandao, wielded by Bason in his lifetime, that Men have inherited from his father. For his Over Soul with Shamash, Men uses a spike, that was removed from Jeanne's Iron Maiden.
Funbari no UtaEdit
Tao Men is first seen, six years after the tournament, as an infant, when Tao Ren brings him along to the reunion of the Five Elemental Warriors. As he and his father arrive at the train station in a chariot Men walks out first while Ren speaks from within the wagon, making it seem like Men is the one talking. This combined with Men's resemblance to his father causes everybody to momentarily mistake him for his father. Ren then steps out behind Men and picks him up, introducing him as his son and saying his name was Men.
As they all wait for Asakura Yoh and Asakura Anna they go to a family restaurant, where Men is seen eating a kids menu and becomes the subject of discussion as no one knows who his mother is. As Horohoro is given hints by Lyserg about who the mother might be, Men somehow manages to look at Horohoro and even calls him a dummy. . When Ryu arrives and tells that Yoh and Anna were delayed, Men imitated Ren, who stood up angry and shouted.
After arriving in Japan, Men begins to walk towards his destination, until he is stopped by two Shaman both wanting revenge against him for his mother's actions of murdering their fathers during the Shaman Fights. Having been attacked by them, he uses Shamash to toture them.
Having noticed Asakura Hana just below his location, Men proceeds attack to him, as he refuses to accept Hana as his boss, until he is stopped by Ibuki Gakko. They both begin to clash until Men breaks Gakko's O.S. As Men prepares to strike Hana from behind, Hana is suddenly saved by Asakura Yohane. Yohane tries to attack Men, who avoids and attacks him instead with the torture wheel. Annoyed, Hana summons his Onis in an attempt to fight back. Viewing Hana, Men sheds a tear and mentions with this power his mother will be saved.
- The name 'Men‘ means industry and is formed by taking the first kana ("ME"（メ) of Maiden and the last kana ("EN"（ン）) from Ren. This is the same method of naming is the same as Asakura Hana.
