Yainage (ヤイナゲ ) is a fictional character in the Shaman King manga and anime series. He is a member of Gandhara[3] and part of Team "Myooh".[4]
Appearance[]
A dark skinned man with a large bald head with oversized ears with three orange stripes on the top and marking on his arms. He wears black shorts, a golden ornate necklace and orange shoes.
Personality[]
He is a follower of Saigan Sati's ideals and remains constantly calm and peaceful. However, Yainage is also a bit too overconfident in his own skills and has been seen losing his calm when Tao Ren overpowered him.
His favorite pastime is bird watching. He also trains daily on the shamisen with Daiei.[5]
Abilities and Powers[]
Like most of the Gandhara, Yainage has the ability to nullify Furyoku[6] and has undergone training in Hell to increase his own Furyoku level.[7]
Spirit[]
- See More: Gundali Myooh
Yainage's Guardian Ghost is Gundali,[6] a Kami-class Buddhist spirit.[3] The Over Soul's six arms can nullify furyoku, thus dissolving an opponent's attacks and Over Souls.[6]
History[]
Past[]
Yainage was born on October 29, 1963 in Punjab, India.[1] He grew up to be a yogi and priest. While practicing Kundalini yoga, Yainage suffered damage to his body and was left on the verge of death, but Sati Saigan, with the help of Gundali, saved him. Afterwards, Yainage awakened his shamanic abilities and became a member of Gandhara. At Sati's request, Yainage usually helped the people at orphanages and nursing homes.[8]
Coming to Tokyo[]
Yainage and the other qualifying competitors attended the opening ceremony at Mimata Hall.[9]
A month later, Yainage and the other competitors gathered at Yokocha Base and were flown to America in the Patch Jumbo. The shamans were tasked with locating and reaching the Patch Village within three months. While still tens of thousands of feet in the air, the jumbo jet was revealed to be an Over Soul shortly before it was dematerialized, dropping all of its passengers.[10]
The members of Gandhara successfully reached the village and formed teams for the tournament, with Yainage joining Jackson and Kado as Team "Myooh".[4]
Shaman Fights Second Round[]
When Peyote Diaz and Turbine fought and mortally wounded Umemiya Ryunosuke, Gandhara arrived to revive and protect Ryu due to Asakura Yoh's kind and pure-hearted prayer.[3]
In Team "Myooh"'s match against Team "The Ren", Yainage fought Tao Ren, who began testing Gundali's ability to neutralize Furyoku. Yainage remained calm and composed through out, until Ren demonstrated his new Over Soul, "Bushin Yúchì", which was able to damage Gundali and directly strike Yainage. Jackson then stepped in, cutting down Gundali and knocking Yainage out of the ring.[11] Ultimately, Team "Myooh" lost the match after Usui Horokeu forced Jackson and Kado to exhaust their furyoku.[12]
When Sati wanted the Five Elemental Warriors to train in Hell, Team "Myooh" ambushed Team "The Ren" in the bath and sent them to Hell.[13] Afterwards, they stood watch over the bodies in order to ensure that the boys could be revived.[14] Anticipating Team "Hana-Gumi"'s attack, Team "Myooh" had Tao Jun revive Team "The Ren" early, and the boys easily forced the girls back. However, Brocken Meyer called for Team "Hana-Gumi" to retreat.[15]
Invading the Plants[]
While Asakura Yoh and his friends invaded the Plants, Yainage, alongside the rest of Team "Myooh" and Lady Sati, traveled to hell in order to obtain the remaining four of the Five Grand Elemental Spirits. There Yainage fought with and defeated Anubis, the guardian of the Spirit of Rain.[16] The next morning, all four Grand Elemental Spirits had been retrieved, and the Gandhara members boarded the Sphinx so they could deliver the spirits to Mū. However, before they reached the underwater continent, Hao awoke as the Shaman King and destroyed the Sphinx and everyone inside it.[17] Despite this, the Spirit of Rain still managed to reach Horohoro in the Great Spirit.[18]
During the fight against Shaman King Hao, Yainage and the rest of Gandhara boarded the train of souls which traveled to the highest level in order to support the Five Elemental Warriors.[19] Afterwards, Hao returned the Gandhara members to life.
Anime/Manga Difference[]
Like many of the Gandhara members, Yainage does not appear in the 2001 anime series.
Trivia[]
